Jesus Perez - helping with language barrier
New Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino says he will focus his attention on the Spanish Primera Division when the time comes to strengthen his squad.
Pochettino was appointed Saints boss on Friday after executive chairman Nicola Cortese took the controversial decision to sack Nigel Adkins, who had led the club to two promotions and into 15th place in their first season back in the top flight.
Pochettino's reign got off to an encouraging start with a goalless draw at home to Everton on Monday in a match largely dominated by the hosts, and the Argentinian admitted he is impressed with the young talent at his disposal.
The former Espanyol boss revealed his project at the club will centre on bringing new talent through the academy, but has not ruled out the prospect of using his knowledge of La Liga to make signings in this or future transfer windows.
"Obviously first of all we will be looking at players coming through the academy," Pochettino admitted.
"Beyond that, Spain is obviously a market I know better than any other and is rich with talent."
Pochettino, 40, also revealed that while he understands English and can speak the language to an extent, he is not yet confident enough to communicate fully in language.
Most of the communication with the playing staff has so far been undertaken by assistant manager Jesus Perez, but Pochettino does not believe the language barrier is a problem.
"Jesus speaks good English, he's very qualified for the position," he said. "Sometimes the language of football is more 'gestural' than vocal."

As has been said already, I feel for Adkins but he's gone, so we have to support our new manager and get behind our team. I see a very bright future ahead.

We could use improvments on the other positions too, but a decent left winger we just don't have so it should be a priority.

Maybe a 'fox in the box' striker too. Everton was a good game but we should have stuck at least one chance away and SRL can't carry the front line by himself for ever.

Wigan have a foreign manager who signs foreigners and they are below us as they are every season at this stage.
QPR have a manager who talks total bo11ox and they have signed a load of foreigners.
NUFC? Only French signings?
Foreign does not equal good.
A lot of lower level clubs sign foreigners. We signed Guly long time ago!
A good man manager is someone who can work with what he has.
Still be nice if we do get someone fantastic, I won't complain if whoever turns out to be the special one that turns it all into sparkling gold dust and takes us to the next level.
Also very interested in what he makes of Lallana's skills. He probably has only seen him run in a straight line at the moment, show him a video of MLT too! Just so he knows what we are used to!

Bench is weak, Boruc and Jos deserve huge credit for stepping up and back and performing well.
I am not sure if Steeeeeve, Chappers or Fraser have much of a future at this level.
I wonder where Nigel is//hope he is recovering from the shock and planning his next move.

Abroad the leagues like the Italian and Spanish are struggling financially open to offload their decent players, often have technically superior players (world/european champions) and Mau has more knowledge of these players and can attract them.

Outside Barcelona and Real Madrid the other teams in La Liga get tiny TV revenues in comparison which is how Swansea snapped up Michu so cheaply. We need to take advantage of this disparity in Spanish football money.

Consistency is still a problem and as such the player would benefit more from a coach with more time to dedicate to his progress.
As for Southampton, the player is very familiar with Mauricio Pochettino who trained him when they were both at Espanyol.
Developing into a key player during his short stint in Spain, many critics went so far as to say the side became too reliant on the playmaker. Coutinho benefited from having a tough coach who demanded he push himself to the limit. Pochettino, after all, is renowned for his work with youth and thus forged a good relationship with the player who appreciated how much time was dedicated to his improvement.'
Sounds awesome but a bit too much like Gaston perhaps?

There is a place for lambert, Ramirez and lallana in the same team for sure.
Jay rod is the poucher, but confidence and experience may be letting him down. I think he's good with potential but is he worth £7m? If Adkins signed him he didn't flower in time.
I can see why Adkins got the sack IF he was making signings, hopefully that was the case and is the case with Maurice. Time will tell, cortese should a complete lack of class over the Adkins affair, but I like what I see with the mp.

What we need the most is a good left winger. Guly isn't Prem quality, Rodriguez can play on that position but he isn't a winger. Lallana doesn't have the defensive responability to play there, he leaves the left back too exposed.
We could use improvments on the other positions too, but a decent left winger we just don't have so it should be a priority.

Here's a difficult one - If we only play one up front does Rickie fit in with his lack of pace?
There is a place for lambert, Ramirez and lallana in the same team for sure.
Jay rod is the poucher, but confidence and experience may be letting him down. I think he's good with potential but is he worth £7m? If Adkins signed him he didn't flower in time.

Sadly someone forgot to tell them to open the main gate so we had to look though the grills. Gonna go tomorrow too to see if I have more luck.
It was nice to see Japanese film crew there too. Loads of Catalan school kids (they were about 5 or 6 years' old) were asking if it was Barcelona and I was delighted to tell them all about our great club :-)
