Saints ace Rickie's heading for his ton
7:00am Saturday 26th January 2013 in Sport
By Adam Leitch, Chief Sports Writer
Rickie Lambert
Rickie Lambert is just two goals away from notching a century for Saints and in the process becoming one of the club’s top ten post-war goalscorers.
Lambert has already bagged 98 goals for Saints since his move from Bristol Rovers in 2009 and looks like the best £1m Alan Pardew may have ever spent.
The 30-year-old is on the verge of an incredible milestone for the club, with upcoming away games at Manchester United and Wigan giving him the chance of bagging a piece of history.
Only nine players have previously scored 100 goals for Saints in the post-war era.

In all of the years I have watched Saints there has never been a more gifted centre forward.
I hope that he retains the captains arm band in this new managerial era.
His vocal and physical drive plus his talismanic aura, lifts the team that previous captains have been unable to do.
We need our best leader in the captains position.
I know Adam Lallana would be p1ssed off but it will concentrate his mind on his own football.
His time will come again.
The 100 goals will be a milestone for Rickie but that will be followed by many more.
COYS.
P.S.
It's good to see the many new posters on this site.
Pitty it has taken the contentious issue of the sacking of Nigel to prompt them to respond.
Any way WELCOME one and all.

He isn't going to lose those.
The experience he is gaining in the Prem is making him a better player.
The same goes for Jrod.
He is going to get better.
Most of the players who are playing regularly now have stepped up and shown their ability.
New signings will need to be better than what we have. That will make them expensive!
At the end of this season there will be squad players moving on, end of contract moving on.
Everyone thinks Punch should get a new contract, if he isn't being offered one then Who have they got in mind to replace him?
Exciting times to be a Saints fan.

Not trying to have a dig at you but, what will happen if our club moves on with the new team in charge. What will your views be if the new man can attract world class players to our club?. Will you if you are one of the few that boycott games, return if things turn out better than before ? If so why not be on the bus from the start??. I see no sense in not going to home games and being a part of the club, but go to away games and support the club, what will this prove?.

A very bias opinion that i will make tho is that SRL has much more to his game than just banging goals in x

I understand we can have up to 5000 for the first throw of the dice...I doubt if we will sell them all after last week.
First time ever to Wigan for a match - must make a good impression. Want at least 3000 in this 6-pointer to cheer them on. It's only £20 - best value game in The Premier League!

Otherwise in the centre of town is a Wetherspoons outlet called the 'Moon Under Water' which was popular with away supporters on my last visit. Also worth a visit is the award winning 'Anvil' pub, which is located next to the bus station. Both these pubs are listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Also worth a mention is the Berkeley on Wallgate (near the railway station). This fair sized pub, had a good mix of home and away supporters on my last visit, serves five ever changing real ales and shows Sky Sports on a huge screen. Otherwise alcohol is available inside the stadium. Andrew MacGregor adds; 'The Swan and Railway pub opposite North Western railway station was very welcoming. They encouraged us to put our Reading flag up in the window and were very pleasant to us all'.

Interesting one for all those who have a view on whether Cortese is a bad person)and are not wholy tired of the whole debate), and those interested in how the players are adapting in this brave new world.
Also intersting the Echo did not pick up on it. Possibly not negative enough about the current regime.

What I’d like him to explain to me is that if we were in conflict with France from 1337 to 1453, why was it called the 100 Year War?

However there has been no mention of a mrs Cortese, so I was wondering whether or not he has a partner and if not urge might be in need of a little loving himself.
That is assuming his tastes which may be incorrect, I don't know.
A youngish stunning saints fan who might welcome the challenge, as most young ladies see themselves as civilizers of men, she will have to be a smart cookie too, might change his whole attitude towards others.
Meanwhile where it matters,
Looking forward to Manure as I think they might face quite a surprise.

Don't get me wrong i was very much against this change but , when you calm down and think about it can you name one person that is bigger than SFC ?
In all walks of life people get moved on ,some deserve it , some don't. Our NIGEL worked wonders for us fans and i believe all our feelings towards each other were mutaul. But N A was not the club we all support, only a very important part. Get back on the bus, it always looks better full than when there are one or two seats empty.
Rickie will go on to be one of the highest goal scorers for club , top three material. SAINTS TIL I DIE, home and away.

If Ricky's performing, I think he'll keep him. If he's not (or if NC thinks he can get more cash than Ricky's worth to our results) he'll flog him.

the picture i have of NC is of a very focused man who has set in motion a plan for SFC to be a top 4 club and play in the CL. To this end he will have no use for the guy who gets 15 PL goals at 30 other than a good profit when he is sold on.
Kyran@kyranwatts
@jordansibley @lord_trousers would one of the interviews be with someone at the top of our club? Like right at the top? ;)
Ade McKenzie@AdeMcKen
zie@jordansibley You could at least give us a hint. Someone new? ;-)
Jordan likes to inter-wink. I hope it is Nicola Cortese and that he gives his reasonining for whay he has done and a bit of credit to Saint Nige.

Happy Australia Day.

As for the Aussie beer, here’s a couple of facts.
Fosters from what I can see does not exist over here. I think it’s another export joke to a gullible POM market like Home and Away and Neighbours.
Victoria Bitter (VB) is in fact a lager, It has a nickname of Wife Beater. It’s like Stella Artois but not as classy.
The best Aussie Beers are from the pure waters of Tasmania like Boags and Cascade.
We’ve blown the froth off a few wets today, it would be Un-Australian not too.
Cheers.
I’ve got Brighton vs Gunners on, 1-1 at the mo and a good cup tie.

Im not sure if any fans who will now boycott home games will still go to the occasional away game but it will be interesting to see how many travel.
Not trying to have a dig at you but, what will happen if our club moves on with the new team in charge. What will your views be if the new man can attract world class players to our club?. Will you if you are one of the few that boycott games, return if things turn out better than before ? If so why not be on the bus from the start??. Are Hansen and Lawrenson still relevant?
I always download the BBC 606 and World Football podcasts. Robbie Savage and Jason Roberts are slight knobs, but to be fair they are more current about the game from a pro footballer perspective.

And this was one of the lowest points of a desperate season as Pompey lost to the only team beneath them in the division - who had won just two matches all term going into the clash.'
Hopefully the suffering can be prolonged for a few more months before everyone realises the pst is skint in the traditional Pompey way.

One person asked Gaston which #saintsfc player has he been most impressed by since joining the club and why?
The reply
#askgaston Gastón: Guly.
If other professionals rate him and Adkins and Pottechino play him he can't be total rubbish. I reckon Guly more often than not plays well. Could do well under the new set up if fans give him a chance.

It will be interesting now to see how the team evolves I think MP will get the best out if each player and despite what I've said in the past I think we may all see both Ramirez and Guly come in to their own and shine. I really hope so.

This new Brazilian can play both flanks. We are weaker on the flank and up front when Gaston has to cover wide, as by far his best position is just behind Rickie.
I would not touch the Schiederlan Cork combination, but Ward Prowse and Davis provide adequate cover.
Though with a new manager there may be new opportunities for them I think the time may have come for Steeeeeeeve and Chaplow to find more opportunities elsewhere,

Starting Guly out left instead of Gaston, with Mayuka at African Nations, may have left natural opportunities for De Ridder/Chaplow as subs down the flanks
Not sure what the plans are for Tadanari Lee and Mayuka..

I don't know why Adkins never used Mayuka or Tad Lee as impact subs (Maybe forever punished for the Leeds debacle or just the rise of J Rod), or along side Lambert as they can both get behind defences but they may get their chance.
We should get more of an idea of how Potechinno wants to organize the team going forwards on Wednesday now they have had some time together. Hopefully we will see another class signing as well!!!

Good points. Who will step out when Llana is back which looks soon - Man U game? As far as Lee and Mayuka are concerned it seems that they will either go out on loan or play for the 21 s I can't see them even getting on the bench. It'll be interesting if nothing else!

Had I been a Stoke City fan, I'd have been furious with the commentators.
Anyway, I digress, the important thing is that, along with everyone who is from Alsace (because they all support Arsenal) there'll be a hell of a lot of people willing Saints to win, especially with Morgan in the team.
When we win, I'm going to drink my weight in sh!t local beer! Should be a great night.

I think Big Rick will reach a Ton at Manure.
I see no sense in not going to home games and being a part of the club, but go to away games and support the club, what will this prove?.

First time ever to Wigan for a match - must make a good impression. Want at least 3000 in this 6-pointer to cheer them on. It's only £20 - best value game in The Premier League!
