Matthew Le Tissier accuses Saints chairman Nicola Cortese of lying about him
12:30pm Sunday 27th January 2013 in Sport
By Jon Reeve, Education Reporter
Matt Le Tissier
MATT Le Tissier has called for a clear-the-air meeting with Saints’ chairman Nicola Cortese.
The footballer-turned-pundit had accused the Italian of having an “ego problem” after the controversial sacking of Nigel Adkins.
But Southampton’s executive chairman has hit back, saying in an interview today that the negativity from the former England man was not beneficial for the club.
After Cortese’s interview, in which he insisted anyone with Saints’ best interests at heart has a place at the club, Le Tissier said he had agreed with a lot of what had been said about the situation at St Mary’s.
But the Sky Sports pundit accused the Southampton supremo of lying about him, and being “disrespectful” to Adkins, who was immediately replaced by Argentine ex-Espanyol boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking on Twitter, Le Tissier, who has a season ticket at St Mary’s which he insisted he paid for, said: “Must be honest, a lot of what (Nicola Cortese) said made sense, but still no thanks to Nigel. Disrespectful.”
“Oh, and two blatant lies when speaking about me! I have met him and he has criticised me in the past, accused me of asking for free tickets I recall.
“And if old players are welcome why is Fran Benali banned?
“And why when I’m invited into a corporate box, two security guards are placed outside to stop me going anywhere else apart from the toilet?”
But Le Tissier, who said he had met Cortese and Markus Liebherr shortly after they arrived at St Mary’s, went on to offer an apparent olive branch, saying he would like to meet with Cortese to “discuss differences”.
And has asked the Saints’ communications team to set up an opportunity for the two to talk.
He said: “I’d be more than happy to sit down with Nicola Cortese and some witnesses, season ticket holders.”

If there's one thing we can all work out about Nicola it's don't wash dirty linen (or indeed ANY linen!) in public, whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation.

I'm sure if they were both to go - there wouldn't be any clash of egoes - and I know where the olive branch could end up!!
I can't for the life of me see what all the fuss is about - I don't see Franny bleeting about not going to SMS. I'm sure he loves the club, I'm sure he would do his bit in corporate hospitality, but his silence is deafening.
I guess that's because there are other issues we are not aware of going on behind the scenes! Bravo Franny for not getting involved in the public spat!

I admire Cortese for his vision for the club. You may have been happy to bounce between the Championship and Premiership, but myself I want to see Saints rise up the table, and it's Cortese's vision to get us into Europe so I respect and like him.
Don't talk like you represent every Saints fan, or are you hoping for an interview from the Echo?

Who do we as fans owe loyalty to though; the club, the chairman, the manager, the players? The only long term (in most cases) is the club, which is run by the chairman, who mostly more money, which is the result of a successful club. Therefore, we should back the chairman as they are the long-term, whereas managers are only for the short-term.
The latest rumour is that NA lost the players, if so who do we owe loyalty to there, the players or the manager? Surely as a skate you would have realised the importance of good money management?! We spent up to £30 million, I doubt Cortese is willing to see it wasted by going straight back down.

Again we see the Echo looking for the worst rather than the best in every article. Their personal vendetta on Cortese leaves one with the deep impression of vengeful hypocrisy a quite normal trait for the echo.
It is not a local paper that support Saints, one is left with the distinct impression, it works in many ways against the good of the club.
Why would Cortese want to meet with MLT what will it prove?
Cortese initiated Markus buying this club and saving Saints in oblivion.
Even in those first days MLT and Big Mac were running the man down about he didn't know anything about football.
WELL GUYS, WHAT DO YOU KNOW, HE HAS TAKEN US TO THE PREMIERSHIP.
MLT is a media man now and sorry Matt respect for you as a player but this sounds so much like a little boy being petty and throwing toys out his pram. You want to talk with Cortese, go and talk privately like a man over a beer or wine and bury the hatchet. This is getting pathetic and not doing the club any good and its not Cortese trying to sensationalize things.

As soon as a manager goes rumours start about either humping players wives or losing the dressing room. However, as part of their severance pay they are gagged by a Compromise Agreement so we never hear their version.
Benali is banned because he rented his house to the club who wanted it for Cortese when he first arrived. The carpets were replaced with wooden flooring and curtains with blinds. He asked for it to be reinstated, it wasn't, so he sued and was banned. He sued the club because his contract was with it. I suppose the judge will decide but most letting contracts include reinstatement.
I'm all for being ruthless in business (do a bit myself) but don't mix that up with vindictive. Theboorer may have gone on about Solent Interiors but his point was correct. The club didn't pay, SI sued, the club failed to submit a defence and won in court.
I heard several stories first hand from people who worked/work at the club that point more to poor man management than anything else. Axe to grind we may say, but I'm talking about quite a few people.
I like everyone else want this to be the real deal and support it. However, it's right that some, like Le Tiss, question otherwise we might act like lemmings or ostriches. Remember that is exactly what the skunts did and look where it's led them.

What if MLT and his consortium had bought the club and were faced with a decision of when to sack a manager to move up to the next level, or just to survive?
MLT has the heart of most supporters because of his football skills. His business acumen is still a little suspect, and sometimes he says things that he would hve beenbetter off keeping to himself.
As for the Echo?

SFC seem to be arguing that they had enough plus change in the deposit and should get some of it back. Sounds like it possible they don't agree with the cost of repairs and that is the nature of the dispute rather than flat our denial?
This would fit with it being held in the Technology and Construction Court which is there for building disputes and other disputes of a more technical and complicated matter.
I don't think it is as simple as people make out.
Anyway it was listed for October. Nothing notable seems to have come out of it.

The club is on a good footing which he should be happy about, even though his consortium's bid was unsuccessful.

Cortese is missing a trick with le'tiss who should be made an ambassador for the club. In fact these 3 players along with mc menemy should be used to increase the clubs profile, as the are true fans of the club even though big l mac did do the jump to Sunderland.
If I were cortèse and an olive branch was being offered I would snatch it, got to be better pr than doing a staged interview with jim from sky!
Does worry me that on other thread, cortèse feels he has the football expertise to relieve Adkins, seeing that we had lost 2 in previous 12 and were appearing to turn a corner. I think these are the fears of a lot of saint supporters, but we pray things will turn out. More importantly, the current players are able to work with them and some have given good comments including some pretty good ones about Cortese. Lallana and Luke Shaw have demonstrated this without question by putting pen to paper.
As for most ex-players, I don't think you have the tight to speak for them as their views are not known.
It would be good if this clique of ex Saints (Benali, Le Tissier, Mcmenemy, now Jim Steele) goaded on by the Echo could reconcile themselves with Cortese and the club. It might have started and eventually end with Benali. (Hopefully positively)
Things are happening, but it might never get resolved. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Maybe what NC was saying that the club needed to evolve to the next level and Nigel had taken us as far as he could.
Few of us wanted NA to go but he has and we need to move on, nothing will change that.
I certainly would not want NC to go, if that happened the owners would go with him, what then?

Look I really want to get behind Cortese and his vision for the club, but he makes it hard.
Support Cortese yes. But accountability is crucial.
Matt (gawd bless him!) is well paid to make off-the-cuff and entertainingly contentious statements with virtually no accountability at all.
Nonetheless, it would be good all round if the two of them could make a public show of mutual respect - and then we can move on (and the media can move on to stir up trouble somewhere else).
Cortese obviously is what he is (warts and all) and he isn't going to change much. So do we therefore want him changed for another chairman?

I could be totally wrong, because I tend not to look for the worst in people, and my credibility, thanks to getting it wrong over Nigels departure, has taken quite a knock!
I agree with the earlier poster. MLT should not go blabbing to the media if indeed he did?? He should do it privately if Cortese will grant him an audience. It would be nice to think he could get on with Cortese and also get back on board with the club and be given some sort of role as an ambassador or similar role. It would be a fitting tribute to him for his contributions as a player and I bet he'd love to be at the club during the wonderful journey we may all be on in the near future if Cortese's master plan comes into fruition.

Puncheon managed to talk to Nicola and sort things out...he said NC was an honourable man, Wotte was sacked but given a pay off he wasn't entitled to as his contract was finished. I think these are the fears of a lot of saint supporters, but we pray things will turn out. Actions speak louder than words and against most fans wishes Adkins is sacked and most of our previous heros hate him! What are fans to think?
Are you paying your £3.00 to support his latest event.

It would seem to me that Nicola Cortese, having realised that he was in a position to purchase an almost new stadium, a state of the art training ground and one of the country’s top academies for a pittance, must have done some research into the Club’s recent history and came to the conclusion that not much of the criticism directed at it since Gordon Strachan had been recruited as manager, had been particularly constructive.
Subsequently, he has tended to have little time for the Club’s leading critics or the publication that has devoted so much space to them. Draw up your own lists.
Of course, this is just a theory. Take it for what it is worth.

i think where nc lets himself down is his public persona. he may well be a very nice man privatley, and just a ruthless business man. mlt dosent help by saying he has an ego problem, if mlt is right and he has met nc but only once how can he tell what nc is like?
what we must remember about nc is that he managed the takeover of a club at the bottom of league 1 with -10 pts and 3 years later we have won a trophy and 2 promotions back to the prem. other teams havent been so lucky, oldham used to play top flight football as did leeds, leicester, forest etc etc etc. lots of those clubs would love to have a nc running them, as would poopey, we got lucky. i am not sayin nc hasnt got faults and hasnt made mistakes, but when you compare our club to others i wouldnt want him gone.
pool are 3-1 down to oldham, is that the `big` club that Coutinho wanted to go to?

MLT as great a hero as he was as a player should deal with Cortese privately instead of trying to make a public exhibition of his dislike for Cortese.
Why can't he take the time out to meet with Cortese privately rather than his need to as much as make a court case of his proposed meeting with Cortese.
Yes Cortese is a business man but without his being there where would our Club be......Certainly MLT s efforts to take the Club over failed and perhaps he has a chip on his shoulder and is jealous of the success Cortese has achieved in taking the Club to the level we are now at .
I felt the same as most people when Adkins was fired ...he was without doubt the best Manager the Club has ever had and had a great personality to go with it.
I am sure Nigel will be successful wherever he goes and he will be a legend at the club as a Manager in the same way as Mattie was as a player.
But the image I had of Mat has changed because of his need to stir it up and his inability to move on.
To me Terry Paine has continued to support the Club and its Management as has Jason Dodd and I am sure they have a different attitude and way of going about things which Cortese is receptive to.
I do agree Cortese is not the best ambassador for the Club but he is bringing huge success to the Club. We have to move forward ....I like MP his new choice of Manager & it seems the current players like him too and this is what is important.
I just wished the Echo sportswriters could write more about the squad and enlighten us on how they feel about the Club rather than writing about than constantly stirring up trouble.
These are exciting times for the Club and the Echo's articles are counter productive and boring

Support Cortese yes. But accountability is crucial.
During that time I was surprise at your lack of comments on the NA dissmissal but I thank you for this post which appears to be extremely well thought out
I am still angry about the change but for reasons that go beyond football. having watched the interview i find myself wanting answers to two more questions
When he said it was perfect timing for the players was he hinting that some unrest in the dressing room was about to service?
When he basically said no one individual is bigger than the club was he saying that our love of Adkins was getting to be to important ?
Whatever happens I will never forget the man who gave us such afantastic 2 and a bit years
In my opinion all of this could be so much easier with just clearer communication from the club. Not secrets about transfers etc obviously, but stuff that doesn't affect any of the clubs business dealings. It's a two way street.

MLT should have asked to meet Nicola in a clear the air meeting by a private approach rather than twitter. I suppose he's hurt by the fact that Cortese met him, but doesn't remember him. He has constantly had digs at Nicola...people don't respond well to that whether you are wrong or right. As he cares about SFC, I suggest he tries to get a meeting. Why does he want witnesses...Nicola isn't actually likely to turn violent.

The lady that was the corporate sales executive once told me that she and others had a sales meeting with NC every Monday. His PA took the minutes but refused to distribute them. She claimed that the goal posts frequently moved with certain instructions being reversed or denied a week later.
She asked my advice. I said after your next meeting email NC confirming your understanding of your brief. She was sacked.
Maybe Matt wanted independant witnesses to ensure that whatever was said and agreed couldn't be twisted by either party afterwards. Pretty sensible don't you think?

It would seem to me that Nicola Cortese, having realised that he was in a position to purchase an almost new stadium, a state of the art training ground and one of the country’s top academies for a pittance, must have done some research into the Club’s recent history and came to the conclusion that not much of the criticism directed at it since Gordon Strachan had been recruited as manager, had been particularly constructive.
Subsequently, he has tended to have little time for the Club’s leading critics or the publication that has devoted so much space to them. Draw up your own lists.
Of course, this is just a theory. Take it for what it is worth.
Maybe you should ask him and indeed others who work for Cortese.
Remember the Daily Echo where banned from SMS for printing a public planning application !! After being let back in as they needed media to con fans for the reason Pardew was sacked. They where then banned again for something comical regarding photos on this website.
Corteses behaviour is all about control as Pardew and Adkins found out.

This all seems very petty and immature and in fairness Cortese runs the club and gets on with doing that. You do not see him engaging with the media often and to be honest you can see why. Just look at the echo's bloggs today.
If I remember rightly ex players and Big Mac had involvement when Crouch and Wilde ran the club and look what a mess that was. On the season when we reached the play offs, they borrowed the money to fund G. Burley's big transfer spend. Which was the money Barclay's fore closed on.
Does anyone really want those days back.
Yes ex players should be given some respect. But leave the running of the club to the man who has seen us from rock bottom to a fighting chance of staying in the PL.
Some have short memories of what has been achieved at this club and yes we had two good managers but who chose them.

no one else was going to buy the club it ended up as ml or nothing, we were hours from going out of business.
also matt is not banned from buying tickets and is a season ticket holder! if you are going to have a go at another poster please get your facts right.
as for the liebherr family having no interest this is what NC said after ML died,
club chief executive Nicola Cortese said: "Markus' family are fully supportive of Saints and in fulfilling Markus' legacy.", "The way in which the Saints family has come together to remember Markus has only reiterated my desire to fulfil the promises and plans that he and I made."
looks like nc is a determined man then.

Matt youre history now shut up and let the experts run the club.
However, I think that he's unlikely to agree to a meeting if it's shouted for in public. If there's one thing NC doesn't do, it's work in the media spotlight.
I suspect that if MLT called and asked to meet NC in private (and promised to keep the talks confidential) then NC would do it.
Chances of that happening from MLT's end are, I suspect, pretty poor.
All supposition but squarely based on what I've seen of NC's and MLT's behaviour in public.

IMO le tiss is only 2nd to channon, and that is only because the former was in the fa cup winning team and clubs top goal scorer. Paine is 3rd.
Actions speak louder than words and against most fans wishes Adkins is sacked and most of our previous heros hate him! What are fans to think?

The Benali thing I've heard first hand. Again as I said if they can't reach a deal the judge will decide - which will be a matter of public record.
As Matt is in the media spot light it's in both parties interests to bury the hatchet. An independant witness has to be a good thing for what I consider to be very obvious reasons. Transparency in any business is a good thing provided it doesn't compromise the business interests such as a bid for a player.

the one thing about saints that we may not like is how everthing is kept `in house` from transfers to who owns the shares, we should be doing all we can to ensure we dont end up like hat lot down the road! we should ask the awkward questions and we should demand answers! we did not let the dark lord do everything he wanted and withdrew support when he returned, which eventually resulted in the admin.
nc could help alleviate our concerns by doing a fans forum.

Hey I am the reasonable one around here right, right!
Sorry, but I can't see Cortese going for it. Brick rather than an olive branch as someone else posted..
MLT needs a different approach if he truly wants reconciliation. After all, it is Cortese's ball. (also someone else's good post)

It was merely information in a chat over dinner before kick off. I would guess it wouldn't be too difficult to ascertain, it's a matter of record. Which legal entity owns the shares and what is the the make up of that board. One for Osprey or Velleity to work on I suggest.Seedhouse the Unrepentant wrote:No disrespect Seedhouse, but can you reveal who told you on Monday night and is there any evidence that this is true?SaintsBTGOG wrote:I was told last Monday night that the shares of the club are owned by the Liebherr family trust and that NC has to report to the trust. MLT has the heart of most supporters because of his football skills. His business acumen is still a little suspect, and sometimes he says things that he would hve beenbetter off keeping to himself. As for the Echo? Vendetta? Who on who? Need to wind their collective knecks in and start to report some good stories about MY team. I do not buy the paper simply for that reason!Cortese simply has to answer to his former employers and nobody else. Liebherr family have no interest other than Markus sister coming to a couple of games when shes heading to Ireland on business.
the one thing about saints that we may not like is how everthing is kept `in house` from transfers to who owns the shares, we should be doing all we can to ensure we dont end up like hat lot down the road! we should ask the awkward questions and we should demand answers! we did not let the dark lord do everything he wanted and withdrew support when he returned, which eventually resulted in the admin.
nc could help alleviate our concerns by doing a fans forum.
The way we are run now is the 'proper' way - as a business! If we want to succeed and survive then there is no other way!
Fans forums are a load of old sh*te - especially the type of pr*cks that get involved like Nick Illingsworth etc etc...

How many days is it now?
Who do we as fans owe loyalty to though; the club, the chairman, the manager, the players? The only long term (in most cases) is the club, which is run by the chairman, who mostly more money, which is the result of a successful club. Therefore, we should back the chairman as they are the long-term, whereas managers are only for the short-term.
The latest rumour is that NA lost the players, if so who do we owe loyalty to there, the players or the manager? Surely as a skate you would have realised the importance of good money management?! We spent up to £30 million, I doubt Cortese is willing to see it wasted by going straight back down.
Cortese is like Lowe, in that he can't stop getting involved in football matters instead of financial and business matters.
It is not good business to sack someone who has a good record for success and replacing him with someone who does not understand or speak the language of the majority of the players, and virtually none of the paying customers - the fans.

we are being run the `proper way`? how do you know?
i have no argument with the way the club is being run, except that like some i would like a little bit more info on dealings within the club! i dont want to know about every player the club has looked at or bid for but i would just like to know that we are sound financially and how much control NC has. if the club wont let the fans know then i would like to know why, and a fans forum, though not ideal, is a way to let the fans ask questions , we may not get answers but it would be nice if we did. businesses answer to shareholders and ultimately it consumers, i would just like to know as a consumer who our shareholders are. as for illingsworth and his bunch of numptys, i wouldnt let them within a mile of any forum!
if you are happy to let nc run the club without any accountability then thats your choice. oh and some businesses fail by the way so being run `as a business` is not a guarantee of success and survival.

We all recognise Matty as the Southampton Legend he is and that is the legacy he left when he retired from football. The danger is that he is undermining his own image with his constant quotes in the media and particularly the "Echo". Imo he needs to have a bit more dignity and withdraw. The media look for a story and, even in the Cortese interview, more time was given to the dispute with MLT than NAs departure. All Matty is doing is feeding them, he's not doing himself or the club any favours.

Imagine two approaches to a problem:
1) I can sidle up to you in a bar and quietly say, "Listen, mate, can we pop somewhere quiet and have a word about this?"
2) I can walk into the bar and scream at the top of my voice "Oi! I want a word with you!"
Matt appears to be taking option 2.
Twitter is NOT the way to deal with this and - regardless of MLT's reputation, ability, debt owed to hm, etc, etc - this makes him look a little bit foolish.
Do it in private, Matt. All this does is give fodder to the media.

If he is genuine he wants to talk to Cortese, then arrange it in private and have the integrity afterwards to keep his mouth shut about it.
However well intentioned he put a deal together for the club that held up the Markus process for weeks, then fell apart and became the biggest joke in football at the time, unless of course you were a Saints fan.
Cortese put together a deal that has seen this club rise from the ashes and become something again.
People wonder why Cortese doesn't get into the petty media circus, well I think the last three articles on here show why. I think people gobbing off on twitter shows why.
Cortese may not be perfect, who is? but he is a **** sight better than Lowe, Crouch or Wilde and most of the other mumpties at football clubs.
Whether people like it or not the business side of the club is none of our business. The club like any other provides a product, we either pay to see it or we don't. No different than a cinema for example or theater.
The fact we align to the club and get emotional over it is our choice. Whether it is Barcelona, M Utd, that is the way football is now.
We are swamped by foreigners in our game who give lip service to the badge
but in reality look to build a rep and bigger wage packet to clear off to another club.
You get the exceptions, agreed, like Morgan.
We are the heart and soul of the club agreed. Our passion for the game is what makes it so emotive.
People like the echo play on that. They want Cortese out because he is not user friendly in their case. They will try and use you to create desencion. Just remember if Cortese goes, the dream goes along with the owners.
Many people with very short memories on here. Three and a half years ago our club was basically gone. Its thanks to Cortese and Markus we still have one, no one else.

The comment from user, milton road, was very true. If Matt wants a meeting with Nicola Corteses he's more likely to get one if (a) he makes the approach privately, not through the media, and (b) if he has made public insults, he apologises in public first. If his reported comments about Cortese are untrue, then again he should try to deal with the matter private, if he wants to.
Pulic slanging matches do not help the football club, or its fans and often reflect badly on the person shouting the loudest.

I would guess it wouldn't be too difficult to ascertain, it's a matter of record. Which legal entity owns the shares and what is the the make up of that board. One for Osprey or Velleity to work on I suggest.

What nonsense is this about Matt Le Tissier? Le Tissier was undoubtedly a great footballer for Southampton and we all honour and respect that – and he has gone on to carve a career as a game pundit. That is all he is, a pundit now, a good one but still merely a pundit.
Why should owners meet pundits? Cortese is an unabashed businessman who controls the finances and the destinies at Southampton - he is answerable to his Board and to the ultimate owners and it is they who have the right to comment. I have no more influence on SFC than I do Tescos, and quite right too, I have bought products and services from both but I can but from others if I am =m unhappy.
Mr Cortese will be judged by his results and we will simply have to wait and see what happens next – I wish him well.

Matt was a fantastic player who should have had at least 50 england caps.
Of course, like every club, there are and have been Saints players who are not English and who care nothing for the club, but there are many other foreign players who don't fit that mould - Ivan Golac, Marian Pahars, Michael Svensson, Claus Lundekvam, and, yes, Morgan Schneiderlin, for example, and plenty of English players who were never committed.
Anyway, you're dead right about the rest. Alas, the class Matt showed on the pitch hasn't been matched recently off it.

What if MLT and his consortium had bought the club and were faced with a decision of when to sack a manager to move up to the next level, or just to survive?

You only have to look at this thread to see the fans have been split over the whole Cortese thing. Some say he can't be trusted and is bad. Some say he saved the club and is the messiah.
I'm trying to tread the middle ground and believe that potentially this is the best thing that has ever happened to Saints. BUT I believe in accountability whether that's Guly, Rickie, Pardew, Adkins or Cortese. Blind trust can lead to a serious fall.

It was surprising that Nigel Adkins was dismissed; but I am sure he was suitably compensated and that he will find another managerial position in British Football. Almost all football Managers get sacked at some stage in their careers and their compensation packages at the highest levels reflect this. Limit your tears.

It does appear that MLT talks to the press about trivia most of the time and it gets blown up, especially by the Echo.
Either the Echo is looking for a non story or MLT is seeking publicity.
It's amazing that this is seen as even remotely important to be newsworthy. If he was at school the teacher would say "Aw Diddums" and tell him to get on with his work.

Baddesley Bill wrote:there were two seasons where he single handedly kept us up. Those that were there remember the games.... yes he had mates but there is no doubt. Without Matt in those two seasons we would have been relegated. Personally, I value his contributions as a saints player for his footy and also his time he has given to Hope Lodge and the Austistic society over the years with the club and on his own time.
MGRA wrote:MGRA...We all know MLT's contribution on the pitch was a contributing factor to us staying up for 2-3 seasons. To be fair...he did have some team mates too.
"I don't believe he kept us up" !?!?
proof that absolute sh1t is posted on this forum !! Possibly the most stupid statement ever posted..... seriously, who else thinks that "Matt did not keep us up" Just what planet were you on when those games/seasons were taking place !?!?
If you do know MLT well...then you probably take a little less of an independent view than the rest of us here...which is understandable.
It was GHK who you, MGRA, were responding to, referring to his very valid opinion that he didn't believe Matt kept us up singlehandedly, and in doing so, describing as 'proof' that absolute sh!t is posted on this forum. Well, you're right about that bit, although many of us would argue that the 'sh!t' posts come from those who claim to know more than they do about stuff like, off the top of my head, last autumn's injury to Ramirez.
So, let me back GHK up on this one. Of course Matt's contributions were amazing and probably made the difference on many occasions. Swap Matt for an average journeyman attacking, creative midfielder/striker and we may well have gone down on one of those occasions. However, if you believe that he singlehandedly kept us up and if you really DO know Matt as well as you claim, I'm sure he will have corrected you by now and reminded you that plenty of other players contributed to the club's survival (and successes) during his playing days.
So, on this particular series of posts, MGRA, I think you have singlehandedly posted some absolute sh!t.

Is as much fuss made about what former players think of Pompey's owner? I mean, when Steve Claridge comes up with some insightful pearl of widom like "Well Manish, I s'pose it would be best if that Trevor whatsisname can find some well rich bloke and, like, get him to buy the club and stuff and we try and get some points before Christmas," is that then seized upon by the Portsmouth News (or whatever it's called) as "Pompey Legend Slams Owner"?
