Claus: Saints have signed a gem
8:21am Wednesday 30th January 2013 in Sport
By Gordon Simpson, Senior Sports Reporter
NEW Saints signing Vegard Forren represents the most promising centre half to come out of Norway in years.
That’s the view of Saints’ long-serving former defender Claus Lundekvam.
Forren moved to St Mary’s in a £3.5m deal from Molde earlier this month, and is in contention to make his debut for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Old Trafford tonight.
With Manchester United boasting Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney in attack, it would be – as Lundekvam puts it – “one hell of a game” to start with.
But, however fiery the baptism might prove for Norwegian international Forren, his fellow countryman Lundekvam believes Saints have pulled off a coup to sign the 24-year-old.
“He’s a very modern centre half,” said the former Saints skipper. “He’s very good on the ball and he reads the game well.
“He’s strong one-against-one, and he’s a bit like me in that he likes to play – he likes to start the attack and join in.
“He’s still got a lot to learn. He’s not played at the top level for very long.
“But the last couple of years, in the games he has played for Molde and for the national team, he has been very steady.
“He’s the biggest centre half talent we have had in Norway for quite a while.”
Lundekvam well knows the transition that Forren must now make. It was 1996 when, as a 23-year-old, Lundekvam left Norwegian side SK Brann to join Saints.
“My biggest challenge coming to England was that the game was a lot faster – the quick players, the tempo, and all the movement,” said Lundekvam, now 39, who made 413 appearances in 12 years with Saints.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how he’s going to handle that. He reads the game pretty well, but when the game is as quick as it is in England it is going to be a challenge for him.”
If Pochettino chooses to play him this evening, it will undoubtedly be just that.
“He won’t get a better test. Against Rooney and Van Persie it is a big challenge,” said Lundekvam, who now works as a television pundit in his homeland.
“He’s played national games against top players, but this is different.
“It’s the Premier League, it’s high tempo. It’s going to be a bit of a culture shock for him, like it is for everyone who comes from Scandinavia.
“It takes some time to get used to it, as it did for me. But he has got the potential to do very well for Saints.”
Lundekvam also confirmed Saints had asked him for his opinion of Forren.
“I have only given my recommendation,” he said. “I have had no influence on it. I only gave my opinion on him.”
It was a solid endorsement, though.
Lundekvam certainly holds Forren in high regard, and while his talent on the pitch is enough alone to impress him, it is also his attitude and drive off it.
“Vegard is a shy lad and he is coming to England to prove himself,” said Lundekvam.
“He is not coming to England for the money. He is a very proud footballer and he wants to play at the highest level.”
Lundekvam intends to travel to Southampton for Forren’s home debut, which could be the February 9 fixture against champions Manchester City.
“I am sure we are going to have a few conversations around what to expect from Southampton as a club and as a city,” he added. “If I can be of any help to him to fit in, of course I will be. But I haven’t talked too much in detail with him.”

It’s a big ask to debut him into this one as he is not used to the speed of the prem yet. If he does play, it must mean that the manager rates him highly. Throw him in at the deep end I say.

Which makes his opinion highly relevant and valued.
I remember Yosh at Arsenal was a little like a rabbit in the head lights and Forren may be the same against Man U tonight - Fergie will play on this too.
But if he comes through this test then his confidence for the rest of the season will go sky high, as the way he plays is based upon giving himself the time on the ball and anticipating the game - all based upon confidence.

One Cup
We got to share it
But it leaves you baby if you
don’t win anymore
Are we disappointed?
When we look down the road
Cos we’ve never won things
We feel like the ugly toad
Well it's
Too late
And the last centuries gone
Those 100 years went by
And we never shone
We’ve won one, and its the always the same
We get to caryy each other
Wave with each other
One
Have you come here to feel better
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
Well, you got Ali Dia instead
Did we ask too much
More than one cup .
We gave out no big noise,
So One is all we got
We've got One
But its such a shame
Well we Hurt each other
Then we wont sing again
You say
Fratton is a noise
Noise is the higher law
Noise is a temple
Noise the higher law
You ask me to sing loud
But I just want to crawl
And I can't be holding on
To the fact that you got more than me
And all I’ve got is hurt
One Win

Maya's easier eg Maya's on fire, Maya's in fire, Maya Yoshida, he's always on fire.
Then there's an adaptation of that Disney Siamese cats song...."Maya's Japanese if you please, Maya's Japanese if you don't please."

He's done well in the last few games, but I think he's maybe that bit too slow of mind against the really clever teams (thus dreadful pens vs the two Manchester Clubs).

gates falling down to 10,000
Where did all the world's best supporters go in their time of need?
But really they are a small club, their fan base is small. Their premiership gates were not as big as either of our average league one seasons. Which really says it all.
They had 7 years where they punched above their weight and have now suffered the cost of that.
They still have another 10 points deduction if this is sorted it is most unlikely they can stay up.
What will they achieve in league 2, they have been there before and survived when it was the old div 4. Can they do it again?
Will they even survive to do that?
Their creditors are tired, Portpin want 12m for the ground and the trust bleat that it is only worth 2.5m. Yet it was not long ago it was being touted as an asset worth 6-7 million. Which is possibly the region the judge sees it. Portsmouth has basically been let down by its fair weather supporters who turn up for a cup final and are never seen again.
To the Pompey few who have actually pledged and meant it best of luck But i think you are too few.
If people can't even turn up to support you at home, how many have pledged and how many will keep the pledge?

1-4 last result. derby league game?
your trying to re-write history again arent you.
just think with all these set backs and adjournments how much extra pledge money TB is going to take out of your webbed hands.
the only reason saints fans notice your poor excuse of a club is because we want to see justice done and for it to finally pay for all the wrong it has done! go away and ask yourself why TB/the (cant)trust want to keep putting the court date back, is it because they want to pay extra court costs? is it because they want to give agent channers more time to give in and accept next to nothing for what he is owed? (that might work with all of your cva`s, even the ones you defaulted on, but not agent channers) or is it that they are still havent raised the £2.5mill that they think the shed is worth?
your club is a joke, your city is a joke and its inhabitants are a joke, but the biggest joke of all is you 5trop! you seem more concerned with your more successful, bigger, richer and better local rivals than with your own team, i dont dislike you i dont hate you i dont even care about you, what i do is pity you.

As it's Rickie, I'll go for:
1. header, 2. left foot, 3. right foot AND ....
..... 4. edge-of-the-area free kick which should have been a penalty but wasn't because it's Old Trafford.

They think they are a big club even though they've hardly been in top flight football in over 50 years.
