NEW Saints signing Vegard Forren represents the most promising centre half to come out of Norway in years.

That’s the view of Saints’ long-serving former defender Claus Lundekvam.

Forren moved to St Mary’s in a £3.5m deal from Molde earlier this month, and is in contention to make his debut for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at Old Trafford tonight.

With Manchester United boasting Premier League top scorer Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney in attack, it would be – as Lundekvam puts it – “one hell of a game” to start with.

But, however fiery the baptism might prove for Norwegian international Forren, his fellow countryman Lundekvam believes Saints have pulled off a coup to sign the 24-year-old.

“He’s a very modern centre half,” said the former Saints skipper. “He’s very good on the ball and he reads the game well.

“He’s strong one-against-one, and he’s a bit like me in that he likes to play – he likes to start the attack and join in.

“He’s still got a lot to learn. He’s not played at the top level for very long.

“But the last couple of years, in the games he has played for Molde and for the national team, he has been very steady.

“He’s the biggest centre half talent we have had in Norway for quite a while.”

Lundekvam well knows the transition that Forren must now make. It was 1996 when, as a 23-year-old, Lundekvam left Norwegian side SK Brann to join Saints.

“My biggest challenge coming to England was that the game was a lot faster – the quick players, the tempo, and all the movement,” said Lundekvam, now 39, who made 413 appearances in 12 years with Saints.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how he’s going to handle that. He reads the game pretty well, but when the game is as quick as it is in England it is going to be a challenge for him.”

If Pochettino chooses to play him this evening, it will undoubtedly be just that.

“He won’t get a better test. Against Rooney and Van Persie it is a big challenge,” said Lundekvam, who now works as a television pundit in his homeland.

“He’s played national games against top players, but this is different.

“It’s the Premier League, it’s high tempo. It’s going to be a bit of a culture shock for him, like it is for everyone who comes from Scandinavia.

“It takes some time to get used to it, as it did for me. But he has got the potential to do very well for Saints.”

Lundekvam also confirmed Saints had asked him for his opinion of Forren.

“I have only given my recommendation,” he said. “I have had no influence on it. I only gave my opinion on him.”

It was a solid endorsement, though.

Lundekvam certainly holds Forren in high regard, and while his talent on the pitch is enough alone to impress him, it is also his attitude and drive off it.

“Vegard is a shy lad and he is coming to England to prove himself,” said Lundekvam.

“He is not coming to England for the money. He is a very proud footballer and he wants to play at the highest level.”

Lundekvam intends to travel to Southampton for Forren’s home debut, which could be the February 9 fixture against champions Manchester City.

“I am sure we are going to have a few conversations around what to expect from Southampton as a club and as a city,” he added. “If I can be of any help to him to fit in, of course I will be. But I haven’t talked too much in detail with him.”

I might be wrong but I don't remember Claus playing like this.

I agree, but would also like to give some praise to Yoshida, who I reckon is another quality centre back now he has settled in. He's come on really well, showing, poise, good delivery and clearances and bravery in the tackles.
He deserves his own chant, too - any ideas?

It’s a big ask to debut him into this one as he is not used to the speed of the prem yet. If he does play, it must mean that the manager rates him highly. Throw him in at the deep end I say.

Sounds very promising. I am always a bit concerned when a new defender joins the team. Any player takes a few games to settle in but at the back any lack of understanding can be costly. I hope it's a seamless transition tonight.

Looking forward to seeing us up a couple of more places!

It's a big shout, but, if he's THAT good, I'd be happy to see MP select him tonight. He has to make his debut sometime, and better to give him it in this one than what might be the 'bigger' game at the weekend.

When you read this article it reminds you how good a pro Claus was for us. Dont under estimate how long Claus played at a high level for us for years in the same position as Forren, he knows his stuff.
Which makes his opinion highly relevant and valued.
I remember Yosh at Arsenal was a little like a rabbit in the head lights and Forren may be the same against Man U tonight - Fergie will play on this too.
But if he comes through this test then his confidence for the rest of the season will go sky high, as the way he plays is based upon giving himself the time on the ball and anticipating the game - all based upon confidence.

I'd be more worried about tomorrow if I was you. (which I'm not thank god)

now then let's get back to talking about the Premier League.

I'll be more than happy with another draw this evening, however putting 3 points on the board will be massive for us.

You got Cortese to blame
You say

One Win
One Cup
It’s the only thing
That keeps us warm at night
One Cup
We got to share it
But it leaves you baby if you
don’t win anymore

Are we disappointed?
When we look down the road
Cos we’ve never won things
We feel like the ugly toad
Well it's

Too late
And the last centuries gone
Those 100 years went by
And we never shone
We’ve won one, and its the always the same
We get to caryy each other
Wave with each other
One

Have you come here to feel better
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
Well, you got Ali Dia instead

Did we ask too much
More than one cup .
We gave out no big noise,
So One is all we got
We've got One
But its such a shame
Well we Hurt each other
Then we wont sing again

You say
Fratton is a noise
Noise is the higher law
Noise is a temple
Noise the higher law
You ask me to sing loud
But I just want to crawl
And I can't be holding on
To the fact that you got more than me
And all I’ve got is hurt

Good idea. Hard to rhyme with Yoshida though. My first thought was to do something with 'ornithoscelida, which is of course the collective name for those ancient creatures which were half reptile and half bird - but I couldn't make it snappy enough.

Maya's easier eg Maya's on fire, Maya's in fire, Maya Yoshida, he's always on fire.

Then there's an adaptation of that Disney Siamese cats song...."Maya's Japanese if you please, Maya's Japanese if you don't please."

Must admit though, I'm not too good at this Japanese stuff. I thought I was on to a real winner when I wrote to Toyota suggesting a catchline for the launch of their RAV4 model..."The new RAV4 - from those wonderful people who brought you Pearl Harbour."

Said at the start of the window we should look to Scandinavia for defensive reinforcements and have absolutely no doubt that he will be a great, solid signing for Saints.

Get him in I say - no better time as we don't have to drop Fonte to do it.

Great debuts for our lads this season though - JWP vs Man City away, Yoshida straight into the middle of a bloodbath at Arsenal and Forren at Old Trafford. Welcome to the Premier League.

Hope that turns out to be the case Norwegian, and when you think he was a 1/3 of the cost that they wanted for Astori.
Could Astori have been worth spending £12m? Only time will tell..

Who in their right mind would put £1000 into this rubbish team then watch as they go into administration for the third time early next season and get £20 back!

Best supporters... my ars'e!!!

History this, history that.......
How about the longest ever games not to record a win in the 3rd division??? Happening here and now!

One last thing... check the stats between the two teams (HISTORY) shows that Southampton are (by far) the better team.

Change your name to "THREE DIVISIONS BETWEEN US"

O wait a minute: NO IT HASN'T. There are four-year olds with special needs that could have done better than that you absolute SPAZTARD. Now be away with you and come back when you can actually win a game. Any game.

Are we disappointed?
When we look down the road
Cos we’ve never won things
We feel like the ugly toad
Well it's

Too late
And the last centuries gone
Those 100 years went by
And we never shone
We’ve won one, and its the always the same
We get to caryy each other
Wave with each other
One

Have you come here to feel better
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
Well, you got Ali Dia instead

Did we ask too much
More than one cup .
We gave out no big noise,
So One is all we got
We've got One
But its such a shame
Well we Hurt each other
Then we wont sing again

You say
Fratton is a noise
Noise is the higher law

Do you spend your time away from this site rocking backwards and forwards in a foetal position telling yourself "We're louder, we're louder, we're louder, we're louder," until the noises in your head go away? You are such a WINNER.

See, there's 'banter' and there's 'mental illness' and what's happened here is that somewhere along the line you've crossed the divide that separates the former from the latter.

I'm sure that in your head the Pompey fans really are louder and the FA Cup was really worth it and the charities really don't mind that much, and in a way that's a nicer place to be for you than the real world. But if your psychosis is left unchecked then in a couple of years you'll be getting tooled up and going on a murderous rampage round the Pyramids Centre under the mistaken belief that you're Neil from The Matrix.

Will you be doing an hourly, then minute by minute, second by second countdown tomorrow? If so, make sure you only take one watch with you.

For logical reasons, I bought a very expensive Swiss watch because I was always obsessed with knowing the time. Then, using my logicical mind again, to make doubly sure I bought an extra watch. But the strange thing was that when I only had one watch I always knew exactly what the time was, but once I had two I could never be sure because they were always slightly different.

Anyhow, hope this helps you not to get into bother tomorrow through being overly logical.

I should have stopped thinking like that when our teacher at school told the class that every one us kids were unique individuals. I was only eight, but pointed out that all of us couldn't be unique or we'd all be the same - whereas if there was just one unique kid he would obviously be genuinely unique.

Anyway, she threw the blackboard rubber at me and caught me a right whack. Terrible that - could even have damaged my brain and made me a bit nuts.

Typical of the violence prevalent in the schools in the Twentieth Century, I blamed Mrs Thatcher and her Incomprehebsible Schools. Not to mention the fact that she deprived me of free milk. Used to love those little red cod liver oil capsules, I had quite a good aim in those days.

And the last centuries gone

And we never shone

One Win
One Cup
It’s the only thing
That keeps us warm at night
One Cup
We got to share it
But it leaves you baby if you
don’t win anymore

Are we disappointed?
When we look down the road
Cos we’ve never won things
We feel like the ugly toad
Well it's

Too late
And the last centuries gone
Those 100 years went by
And we never shone
We’ve won one, and its the always the same
We get to caryy each other
Wave with each other
One

Have you come here to feel better
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
Well, you got Ali Dia instead

Did we ask too much
More than one cup .
We gave out no big noise,
So One is all we got
We've got One
But its such a shame
Well we Hurt each other
Then we wont sing again

You say
Fratton is a noise
Noise is the higher law
Noise is a temple
Noise the higher law
You ask me to sing loud
But I just want to crawl
And I can't be holding on
To the fact that you got more than me
And all I’ve got is hurt

Do not answer the idiot as a rule, get ready for al the cr@p now, sorry guys.
3pts tonight.??.
Sorry, everyone, it's my fault, I started it and apologise.

But that ALI DIA LINE WAS MINE AND HE STOLE IT THE LITTLE SKATE SH!T!!

For the record, I previously wrote:

'You wanted to play Jesus,
but got David Connolly instead.'

Pity 5trop can't simply copy £50 notes, then he'd be able to save the skates from their doom.

Anyway, it’s Shakespeare’s Sister time. I thought about ‘Stay’, but that would sound like I was being a bit pally with 5trop, so here’s another one:

YOU’RE HISTORY

Well you made your bed, better lie in it - get back to sleep!

You should see me when you're not around,
You’re no genius, you’re just a clown.
You can flee when the coast is clear,
Now I know I don't need you dear.
So leave your hand like a tragic man and disappear!

You're history - like a beat up car.
No good for me - like an old film star.
You're history - that's what you are.

You should see me from your ivory tower,
Where’s your hero of the hour?
I’m a close friend of your destiny,
When you're not here to bother me.

Well you made your bed better lie in it - get back to sleep!

You're history - like ancient Rome.
No good for me - like the Dead Sea Scrolls.
You're history - everybody knows.

You're history - you're history.
My enemy - my enemy.
You're history - you're history.
So get on your bike and take a hike right out of here!
You're history - like a worn-out shoe.
My enemy - you're nothing new.
You're history - you're history - ooh-ooh-ooh.
You're history - like a beat up car - No good for me.
You're history - sing it girl, let me hear you.
You're history - my enemy - bye-bye, bye-bye.
You're history - so long!

mmm dont know. listening to pinnochio's press conference it seemed he thought the player needed to do some work on getting fitness to the required level which if it is the case cant see him starting.
If MP has viewed the video of the home game I think Forren will be in immediately.

Can't be any more of a risk than playing Jos surely?

He's done well in the last few games, but I think he's maybe that bit too slow of mind against the really clever teams (thus dreadful pens vs the two Manchester Clubs).

By the way - was that an Aston Villa player I saw diving last night?

Didn't hear much about it in the press.

Possibly. It will be interesting to see what happens now. Will Fox come back in under MP? Shaw will then move to the bench. A bit like JWP when Cork returned from injury. That's ok. I understand that senior players may have to take priority however MP will have to be careful with the younger players. If they're not played the club runs a risk that they will want to move. Inheardcacshort whilecagonthat Nottingham Forest were after JWP on loan to th end if the season. Anyone else heard that?

There's no way it'll be a straight swap in favour of Fox. Either Shaw is injured or MoPo's got a special mission lined up for him.

Where did all the world's best supporters go in their time of need?
But really they are a small club, their fan base is small. Their premiership gates were not as big as either of our average league one seasons. Which really says it all.
They had 7 years where they punched above their weight and have now suffered the cost of that.
They still have another 10 points deduction if this is sorted it is most unlikely they can stay up.
What will they achieve in league 2, they have been there before and survived when it was the old div 4. Can they do it again?
Will they even survive to do that?
Their creditors are tired, Portpin want 12m for the ground and the trust bleat that it is only worth 2.5m. Yet it was not long ago it was being touted as an asset worth 6-7 million. Which is possibly the region the judge sees it. Portsmouth has basically been let down by its fair weather supporters who turn up for a cup final and are never seen again.
To the Pompey few who have actually pledged and meant it best of luck But i think you are too few.
If people can't even turn up to support you at home, how many have pledged and how many will keep the pledge?

HOpe Forren plays tonight like to see Adam back. Not expecting much but Rickie, Ron Davies is the last league player to score 4 for an away side at Old Trafford of course for Saints, was just wondering if you might do the same. Well it was worth an ask.
Best of luck tonight lads all those going and to the team.

Interesting - on "South Today" yesterday evening they described Portsmouth's current run of form (sic) as the worst for 37 years. Now that doesn't seem long ago to me. To a club with fans so proud to quote its history it's the blink of an eye.

So, is this kid of run of form in the league a regular thing down the road? I wonder if one of our regular Portsmouth-based posters could comment.

your trying to re-write history again arent you.
just think with all these set backs and adjournments how much extra pledge money TB is going to take out of your webbed hands.
the only reason saints fans notice your poor excuse of a club is because we want to see justice done and for it to finally pay for all the wrong it has done! go away and ask yourself why TB/the (cant)trust want to keep putting the court date back, is it because they want to pay extra court costs? is it because they want to give agent channers more time to give in and accept next to nothing for what he is owed? (that might work with all of your cva`s, even the ones you defaulted on, but not agent channers) or is it that they are still havent raised the £2.5mill that they think the shed is worth?
your club is a joke, your city is a joke and its inhabitants are a joke, but the biggest joke of all is you 5trop! you seem more concerned with your more successful, bigger, richer and better local rivals than with your own team, i dont dislike you i dont hate you i dont even care about you, what i do is pity you.

Not a clue, all you know is how many cups
Go and check the last league results again tw@t!

I prefer 5-1 like when we beat you 5-1 or how many times we knocked you out of cup competitions 5 to 1
How about when we beat you 5-2 in your own backyard.

gates falling down to 10,000
Where did all the world's best supporters go in their time of need?

I've been thinking of Ron Davies. Wouldn't it be lovely if his 4-goal record was equaled this evening?

As it's Rickie, I'll go for:

1. header, 2. left foot, 3. right foot AND ....

..... 4. edge-of-the-area free kick which should have been a penalty but wasn't because it's Old Trafford.

The perfect four!

Oh, look, four for one player ...... four ...... one ..... That number just won't go away :)

Pompey fans must be the most deluded fans in the UK
They think they are the best supported and the loudest.
They think they are a big club even though they've hardly been in top flight football in over 50 years.
They think because they won??? the FACup twice they must be massive.
They just don't realise they are a small, insignificant club and that they are an embarassment to the football league. Used to feel sorry for them but now the sooner they end the better for all.

Hold on though - they do always fill the public gallery.

It's become a bit like an away end for them, only the game keeps getting postponed.

Those Pompey fans who come on here going on about what they have won concern yourself with your future not the past , my local team Scarborough were the first club to win automatic promotion to the league but after going into administration and ultimately liquidation they know play in the equivalent of the Wessex league, play 20 miles away in Bridlington and there appears to be no sign of the new stadium promised by the council !!! The ground has been flattened and is now derelict and is a constant reminder to those hardy boro supporters of what was and what is now.
Although I hate Portsmouth with a passion , I enjoy the fact we have local rivals , we can sing about our hatred of the skates and we are the number 1 club in Hampshire !! Life without Pompey would be far less boring and entertaining .
Coyr think a draw is not beyond us tonight ready for match on Saturday
