Mike Golding is approaching the final 500 nautical miles of his epic Vendee Globe adventure.

The Warsash based sailor is in fifth place in the round the world yacht race and closing in on the finish.

He has been tentatively slated to finish tomorrow night but in his last update admitted the wind had held him up.

“It is starting to get a little better and I hope I am getting a little lifted now, but the wind direction is not what I was expecting on the files,” he said.

“The last hour I have been pointing more in the direction of the mark, but I feel like I have spent hours chasing my tail.

“I think I have probably tacked six times and that is hard work.”
