Cork relishes hard work under new boss
7:00am Monday 11th February 2013 in Sport
By Adam Leitch, Chief Sports Writer
Jack Cork
Jack Cork is enjoying life under new manager Mauricio Pochettino – even if he could do with an extra heart to cope with the demands brought by the Argentinian’s pressing game.
Saints secured their first win since the former Espanyol boss controversially replaced Nigel Adkins at the helm, beating Manchester City 3-1 at St Mary’s.
The reigning Premier League champions were well and truly outplayed by Saints, who hassled and harried their way to victory.
Much has been made of the pressing game employed by Pochettino since his arrival - a system midfielder Cork is enjoying.
“It does feel like you need two hearts to play like that," he said.
“It is hard work but you can see the result and hopefully if we can keep that standard going, we can hopefully do that every week.”
Saints have only lost three of their last 16 Premier League games now, after suffering eight losses in their first 10 games back in the top flight.
“We've been playing well for quite a while now - it is a good two or three months we've been picking up a few results,” admitted Cork.
“The last few games under the new gaffer we've been playing some really good stuff.
“After a great game like that against City, there is no reason why we can't keep going and get higher up the table.”
Saints moved six points clear of the drop zone with Saturday’s win, which Cork compared to the high of achieving automatic promotion from the Championship last year.
“I’ve had some great times at this stadium,” he said. “When we went up last season, the fans were unbelievable then.
“That was up with that day. “When the final whistle went and you see the fans go nuts and to see the lads so happy, it was a great three points.
“It takes us six points clear and it is almost as big as when we went up last year. Hopefully we can keep that gap at six points and push on.”

For the nervous worriers - I think we now need four more wins to secure our place next season, but I truly believe we will win more than that and actually finish in a very respectable position.

Each time we lost control of games we could have won.
He gave the view that Rickie was tiring and putting himself at risk of injury.
I understand those sentiments but you only had to look at Rickies' face each time to see he was a better judge of his body, being a long term football professional.
On Saturday I noticed that Rickie was chasing across the pitch to try to get behind the ball in the last moment before the ref blew for full-time.
Having led the line the whole game.
His fitness levels are fine, like all the rest.

We're not the ones doing the longest journeys, Rising Son's over, too and some of the regulars are taking the short drive north from Hampshire (d4mn plastics, the lot of 'em).
We're staying out at Seaturn Burn Travelodge.
Being that I'll have my boys, I doubt if we'll be out late on Saturday, but we'll try to find a 'family-friendly' pub in town.

They were saying on match of the day 2 last night that in a way the point against Wigan was more impressive. Simply cos when you play the big teams no one expects anything and you go for it. Yet when you play a club struggling along side you and you have all the nerves and things and go and boss the game. That shows character and spirit. That is what will get Saints out of trouble.
Good weekend overall shame about the Villa result but expected really.

We haven't just rushed their game, we have identified where each team generates their play and snuffed it out.
Like MP said, cut out their links which when u watch our last four games is exactly what we have done in numbers, en-masse as the French say.
MP has put himself well and truly on the European managerial map and at this rate we may get a few big big teams after him come summer.

Fulham are in danger of being caught up in the scramble only wigan have less points from the last 10 and Norwich's form has collapsed. West Brom would have been in trouble but for form earlier in the season. West Ham are cat away from home. We have made ground on all these teams. Pulled back 9 points on Fulham in 16 games. The pundits think those teams are safe, but on recent form Fulham, Norwich and West ham face a scrap and have some of the worst form in the division. I think 40 points will be enough.

You know saints are better than that, but you just can't bring yourself to admit it, what you should do is give me an easier prediction like how many points pompey will get in there next twelve...like I said I would give you a bit more respect if you give yourself a little first. When your wrong you should come on here admit it, then delete your account here and move on and get over the jealousy and come to terms with the real world, then maybe you can focus your attentions toward your own club and stop making yourself fell better by pretending that we are even remotely similair...!
