Lambert keen on Saints stay

Rickie Lambert Rickie Lambert

Rickie Lambert wants to stay at Southampton for the rest of his career.

The 30-year-old striker arrived at St Mary's from Bristol Rovers in 2009 and has helped the club rise from League One to the Premier League.

Lambert, who has scored 99 goals for the club, is the highest English scorer in the Premier League this season, leading to reported interest from others.

However, the Liverpudlian has quashed such talk, saying he would like to end his playing days at the south coast club.

"My family are happy here and I am very happy,"said Lambert.

"It has been a special three and a half years and I would love to finish my career at Southampton.

"The club's ambitions are very high. Southampton is going to be an exciting place over the next few years."

To fire us up three different divisions, he has to be up there with Le God.

I might lose all faith in we walk away from srl as easily as we seem to have turned our backs on nige.

ANYWAYS... In the spirit of the article, I'm proud of lambo goin on record this way. Sign him up so he can be our elder statesman for the premiership glory years ahead. And enjoying gloating about how great a player he is to my mates who support other teams. It's a joy to watch how he brings other players into the game, let alone the goals and the commitment! Rickie is SFC's best ever player. Le God was right up there, but although he scored some of the most amazing goals I ever did see (and I think holds the record for most number of entrants of goal of the month in one month) he was a bit of a goal hanger and had to have his pockets sewn up to keep his hands out of them. He certainly never had anywhere near the work rate of st Rickie. He is immense and a great role model for kids, mine worships him! sign the man up and give him a Lambo!

I share your fears that we might lose him, say in the summer. Given the pace we now play at, and his age, and his relative lack of pace. I wonder if we would keep him if someone stepped in and offered say £6 or £7m and we could get a good replacement from Spain or South America who was say 7 years younger and was adept in playing the 'Barcelona' style of football.

I don't want to lose him, but everyone has a price and/or a shelf life, especially where NC is concerned.

For us, Rickie is a legend and will be forever. But.... nobody is forever when it comes to playing football and managing teams, especially at SFC.

I know times have changed and the game has speeded up, but there have been previous examples of front players with the guile and skill of Rickie who dropped back into midfield in the twilight of their careers.
