Saint Barnard in shop window

Lee Barnard Lee Barnard

Saints striker Lee Barnard will have a huge chance to put himself in the shop window tonight, as he bids to help Oldham Athletic succeed in their latest FA Cup giant-killing attempt.

The relegation-threatened League One side will host Premier League high-fliers Everton in a televised fifth-round encounter this evening.

The Latics have already toppled Merseyside’s other goliath, Liverpool, in this season’s competition, shocking them three weeks ago at Boundary Park.

With out-of-favour St Mary’s forward Barnard having joined their ranks on loan since then, Oldham possess even greater firepower as they now aim their slingshot in the direction of David Moyes’ side.

They go into the match without a manager, after Paul Dickov left the club this month, but on the back of a confidence-boosting 3-1 victory against MK Dons, in which the forward grabbed the opener.

“We are not getting carried away,” said Barnard. Full story in today's Daily Echo

Four goals in fifteen matches, but it seems Howe didn't want him there, so opportunities dried up.

Why didn't we loan him to LiDL?
He would definitely get a game there.
We could loan them several players and be certain they would get game time.
I am one of those who wants them to survive as a club, relegation yes, survival yes, success no!

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

Not really. The end of the beginning marks the beginning of the middle. Seed of course is quoting part of Churchill's famous post Alamein speech. Had he quoted the whole speech, then the long trail ahead would be even more clearly signaled......

"People may think the opening of the midpoint will mark the inception of the conclusion - or at least the commencement of the halfway terminus. But it is not even the outset of the intermediate or the limit of the outset, but it is perhaps the birth of the extremity of the inner inauguration."

"Let us therefore brace ourselves so if something should last for ever and ever, people will still say this is only the start of the middle of the end."

Load of rubbish in my opinion, but to be fair he did also say "Never has so much been owed to so many by so few"

We shall agree to disagree... he might do well at a club like Bristol City but only because they are likely to go down and cannot score at the moment, so I suppose he could do well for them.

liking what you say, Matt smith does look good, but it was all in the air. the two games i have seen with him he has not inspired with the ball on the floor. guess he can work on that but do we want to be going for the long ball or playing fast football on the floor.

That's what you get from a desperate skate at a small club with no fans and very little to brag about other than their history. On history ? You hear very little of their long history of exploits to the likes of Man U, Arsenal etc In the top league ? Unlike the Saints.

And the "Lost" number seems to have gone missing. Here it is.

Portsmouth Lost 20
Saints Lost 11

And our losses were against

Man U, Man C, Arsenal, Spurs, etc

Portsmouth losses against the might of:

Carlisle
Oldham
Walsall
Swindon
Notts County
Stevenage
Sheff U
Brentford
Bury
Doncaster
Orient
Crawley
Yeovil
Swindon again
Walsall again
Hartlepool
Notts County again
Colchester
Scunthorpe
Bournemouth

I agree, those are comparable in every way.

To be fair, you did thrash the mighty Shrewsbury 3-1 at Fratton. What a night that must have been! Presumably just as good as our thrashing of Man City last week.

Changing subject a bit, I was thinking on Rickie Lambert.
This season must be fantastic for him, each season he has proved he is up to the standard. The critics have been made to eat humble pie.
Just wonder if he looks at the premier as a place he has reached because of the experience accumulated in lower divisions. Or maybe thinks he could have played here six or seven years ago and has regrets.
The thing is, if he had not come to Saints he probably would never have got to the top. Would probably stayed in the lower divisions. He saw the dream and climbed on the bus early, a fantastic player for us and has more than proved himself to all his doubters.RICKIE LAMBERT YOU ARE PREMIER LEAGUE.

I don't think even Pards saw that in R.L. I reckon he just put the jacket on and the more he wore it the better it fitted and without Pards maybe he wouldn't have made it to the top.

The funny thing is your club is more than £40million in debt and you have no new stadium to show for it so although you make fun this is just like viewing your club`s future in a crystal ball.

Even Saints fans, nearly 4 years ago could see the writing on the wall, they chose to ignore, now they must pay!

And bluewhiteandinbred, it is not yet your worst team, 4 more games wthout a win is required I believe!

I think you'll find that the Pompey fans were so embarrassed by the club owner's failure to pay the charities that they clubbed together and paid every penny owed to all the charities in question. even playing field eh
this was taken off wiki
1948–49 and 1949–50: Champions of England

League football resumed for the 1946–47 campaign after five years and Portsmouth continued in the First Division. Portsmouth had a large advantage during the war where a lot of footballers had to move to Portsmouth to serve at the docks. Because of this they decided to play for the closest professional team and Portsmouth had the pick of the best

probably never paid for these players either

Don't encourage him Warrens...I think it was more of a stickleback judging by the picture he was showing everyone! ;o)
Sea fishing is my bag...south side of IOW as certain Mark Jury who owns a great carp lake (new forest waterpark Ringwood Salisbury road) and I have a fantastic Bass spot..

..unbelievable as it may sound our record was 11 double figures on a flood tide near atherton ledges...I will say no more...live joey mackeral, no more can be said.
Last time I went sea fishing, it was off the Needles one December. I thought I'd be ok wearing an extra layer. It took me till May to thaw out.

Never again.

Yes I noticed tat picture. It looks like they'd all forgotten what to do when they actually score or were in shock because they had actually scored a goal.....for once
They are pathetic aren't they.
I also noticed that a few "honest" fans who post on the site are questioning the recent home attendances.
For the last few games some of the few that actually go to games have said there was only 8-9,000 there and the attendances have been printed as 11-12,000. They say the season ticket holders are being counted even if they don't turn up.
Still cheating as usual....tut tut

£20 to park at Nottarf. Were the wheels still on it after the game? Good money making scheme though. £20 is a lot of money to such a tiny club. Hope all other clubs now charge the SKUNTS £25 to park at the away games. Such a shame they never got Whttingham signed up before bonfire night. They could have sat him outside all their games with a "Penny for the
Guy " sign. They might have got a small amount from the opposition fans. And nothing at all from the bestest, bestest, best
est, very bestest fans in the whole world.

Someone's cracking up HAHA. Do you really think anyone cares about your pathetic excuse of a club? When we got relegated in 05 the chance was there for your lot as a club to build but what did you go and do you brought the players to win you a cup whilst being on massive wages. The fans didn't care on that day in Southsea after heroically defeating lower league Cardiff at Wembley and it now seems no-one else cares about the plight PFC are in it at the moment. Congratulations on your point against Carlisle
