Wouldn't expect anything less from our amazing support! Funds prevent me from doing this one but I bet it will be a right laugh. All the hotels booked up and Red and White everywhere. The Geordie's are a good laugh as well.

Believing that this was one match for which getting tickets would be a formality, I booked trains and a hotel weeks ago, and will be taking in a visit to friends in Ripon on the way.
When I failed to get a ticket through the usual channels before they sold out, I started to panic. I spoke to the ticket office this morning and was told that, having sold the initial allocation, Saints asked for more but NUFC refused saying that it would sell the remaining tickets to their own fans.
The 2 questions are, how many tickets did Saints initially ask for (the ticket office wouldn't say) and why wouldn't NUFC send any more when Saints asked for a second allocation?
It's a 52,000+ stadium. Comparing all of NUFC's home gates this season, games seem to fall into 2 categories:
1. sell outs (Manure etc.)
2. 48,000ish (Villa, Norwich etc.)
Assuming we fall into the latter group, does NUFC really believe it will sell out? We'll see!
I don't blame the club, it has to make a decision. What gets me is the whole process which, like so many things in the modern game, gives scant regard to supporters.

Are there any Saints fans who won't be going because they couldn't get a ticket? I struggled.

Seems crazy that we can take more to a sell out game at Reading with a 24000 capacity than we are allowed to take to SJP with 52000..bizarre.

Another thing that irks me is that these things aren't sorted much earlier so that fans can have their tickets before planning their travel.
What with Sky, Europe etc. Of course it isn't always possible - cup replays, bad weather etc - but sometimes thing are moved or not finalised until it's too late to sort arrangements out.
Anyway, looking forward to discussing stuff over a beer up North.

Warrens, the things is, there is a maximum amount (10%, I think) but the away club can buy a smaller quantity if they wish. The problem is, once bought, they're non-returnable, so the away club has to make a big decision. I can understand, under the circumstances, why Saints didn't purchase more than they believed they could sell. What seems odd to me is that the away club doesn't have first say in getting a second batch.

Our plans will be these:
Reach Newcastle around 2.30pm on Saturday. Drop bags and head to town for 5pm(ish) rdv with Warrens and RisingSon at the Indigo Hotel (which is between the ground and the station).
After that ...... who knows. Maybe a pub for a drink and dinner.
Does anyone know where to have a pre-match drink? Yorkie mentioned one to avoid (Duke of Northumberland or something, was it? Can't remember.)
After the match, we have to dash to catch the 4pm back to York and onwards South as Monday's a school day for the lads.

I've always found on previous trips the Strawberry at the back of the Gallowgate end to be excellent a decent mix of home and away fans but gets rammed near kick off. Not been there since we were last in the prem so not sure if it's still a decent choice

Fraid not bit short on the money side at present. Definitely reccomend getting in early the pub is just the other side from the ground basically if you were to put a pub on the trainline that runs next to the kingsland thats how close it is
Would you know if it's family friendly? I checked the links added by BM and RS but it didn't say.

Would def reccomend near the Ground at Gallowgate.... The 3 Bulls Heads (cheap meals all day too upstairs) either downstairs or upstairs .... or the Goose next door... both will have the televised match on for after-match drinks... plus only 5 min walk to St james. Avoid Duke of Northumberland or the Black Bull (opposite where coaches drop off) ... to be honest most pubs are ok with away fans tho as long as your not giving it the big one.

Lounge & ONeills are opposite the station, just rund the corner is the Long bar and Head of Steam, like I said the town is full of great pubs and no hassles on a match day. As luck would have it Im back south now so cant make it but doing the double over the barcodes would give me immense pleasure. Just try and take it easy up the 20 flights of stairs to get to your seat...... Pass the Oxygen!!!!!
