Cash boost for football in Chandler's Ford
GRASSROOTS sport in Hampshire has received a boost after a Chandler's Ford primary school was awarded a grant of more than £20,000.
Knightwood Primary School will use the cash to install floodlighting so that they can extend the use of their all-weather pitch.
The award of £22,026 comes courtesy of the country's largest sports charity, the Football Foundation.
Paul Haydon, headteacher, said: “We are very grateful to the Football Foundation for this grant because it will help us to offer greater opportunities for sport both within our school and also for the benefit of the local community.”
Paul Thorogood, the charity's chief executive, said: “Knightwood Primary School has been extremely energetic and has worked tirelessly in partnership with the Hampshire FA to secure this funding, and I am thrilled to see their hard work rewarded with this substantial Football Foundation grant.”
Funded by the Premier League, The Football Association and the Government (via Sport England), the foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m.
