Pards fires up Newcastle to beat Saints
7:00am Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Sport
By Adam Leitch, Chief Sports Writer
Alan Pardew
Alan Pardew says he “won’t be pulling any punches” in the Newcastle dressing room as tries to fire up his players to beat Saints.
The former St Mary’s boss, sacked in 2010, saw the Magpies defeated earlier this season when he had the first chance to try to get one over his former employers.
Now back at St James’ Park for tomorrow’s game there is no doubting his desire for victory.
SNOW WARNING TO SAINTS FANS TRAVELLING TO NEWCASTLE - CLICK HERE
He said: “It’s going to be dear to my heart to win this game, trust me, so I won’t be pulling any punches in my dressing room.
“But that’s easier said than done. Southampton have definitely picked up and they play a high pressing game which we are going to have to combat.
“He [Pochettino] has had a good start. There are some good players there and I am looking forward to seeing them. They got the result over us the last time and they thoroughly deserved it, so we need to perform a lot better than we did at their place.”

If we win tomorrow and our bubble gets bigger still, it will be clear that Nicola's decision to fire Adkins, who wasn't really up to Prem standard and appoint the young genius Mauricio was wise, timely and welcome.
If we lose tomorrow and our bubble bursts, it will be indisputable that Cortese's decision to axe Nigel (who's brilliant track record was unsurpassed) and appoint the inexperienced upstart Pochettino, was stupid, badly timed and rightly frowned upon.
If we draw tomorrow and our bubble stays the same, it will be manifest that the jury is still out on Nicola Cortese's decision to dismiss Nigel Adkins and appoint Mauricio Pochettino.
I've only come to this conclusion after a lot of thought so very I'm confident it's correct - though no doubt there'll be some on here who will differ.

That said, there’s no way of proving that had Freemantle become Southampton FC, rather than the Saints, that “the Zebras” would not have caught on.

the pace and accuracy is getting better every game and Toon do not like hassling teams that make them work.. none of Pards teams do.
I honestly think Pards is really scared of total embarrassment. I can here his old knees knocking and it isn;t from the cold.... it's cos The Saints are Coming. Viva Los Santos clobbering machine.

.
On a Sky TV program the other week "Moyes and co" mention the way to play against Saints was to play ROUTE ONE "hoof ball" and bypass our pressing game.
I therefore expect the "limited tactical one" to adopt those tactics and it will be the first real test for whether we have a "plan b".
I also expect Newcastle to start at a high tempo with a view to hanging on to what they have got late in the game when their mid-week tiredness kicks in.
Therefore it is important that Saints also start at a "high tempo" as well and have a plan to combat their ROUTE ONE football.

A win will also put NUFC firmly in the relegation scrap too.
We will pull away a little and the impetus of an way win and moving up the table will make the following games that little easier.
Confidence is everything and we appear to have quite a bit of it.
The fixture list has been very kind to MP in that he has had two separate oppurtunities to drill the entire squad into his way of thinking and they have had time to recover from the high intensity play we now do.
A full fit squad to choose from and several players thinking they have done their chances good with performances that werequite simply impressive.
Now we find out about MP's ruthlessness, does he carry on with the team formation and personnel from the MCFC game, or does he alter to suit this game and players who have impressed in training since.
We do have a squad that will do ok at this level and it will be expanded upon once we have confirmed our Premier League status.
Gossip and rumour suggest that Pardew is interested in Punch, I personnally think he will be allowed to leave. There are better wingers out there and we will be improving the team. Pre-season target Jens, or whatever his name was, is still a better prospect and there are other players in this position who will improve the team.
A fantastic time to be a Saints fan because I believe we are on the verge of some fantastic times.
I also think that 'fucius has a point about results this weekend. Drunken misery or drunken celebration, or drunken acceptance. Extreme reaction whatever the result.
Never been easy to be a Saints supporter, always been fun though!

Slight c0ck up on the timings front. Our train doesn't reach Newcastle until 3.47pm. So, ETA more likely to be 5.45ish.
