Battle of the birthday boys at St Mary's

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino

It looks like many happy returns for one manager at St Mary’s on Saturday ... while the other could have the birthday blues.

Harry Redknapp’s first return to Saints since he left the club in the Championship, and a seemingly inevitable hot reception, doesn’t seem the happiest of ways for the former Pompey manager to celebrate his 66th birthday.

But, in an amazing twist, the man in the opposite technical area, current Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino, will also be blowing out the candles as he hits 41 on Saturday.

It’s a huge game for both sides as QPR drink in last chance saloon in terms of their chances of Premier League survival. Anything other than a win at St Mary’s will surely extinguish whatever hopes they have of avoiding relegation this season.

Saints sit in a far healthier position in the table but know they need to make the most of some good form by putting more wins on the board, and they barely get more winnable than a home game against a team win just two league victories all season.

There would be nerves still jangling around St Mary’s if Saints failed to collect the three points. If they do then they will be within touching distance of the superb achievement of securing a Premier League berth for next season, however.

Success for Pochettino and woe for Redknapp – it’s the birthday most Saints fans will be wishing on the managers.

This story makes no mention of Morgan Schneiderlin. For heavens sake Echo you have only had five stories about him this week, all basically the same one witha different heading and then you go and miss him out of this one ... when is Morgan's birthday .. surely this deserves a mention.

Got to wait till the 8th of November for Mogans big day, but hopefully there will be a lot more big days for him before then, a few more of those great goals like on Saturday will do us.
What a fantastic player, we all should be happy that he has signed for another four years, it's about time that we had a chant/song for him also.

Well 3 points is the most we can get and of course it depends on how other results go too, but getting those three points will be advantageous to our securing Premier safety and will keep us in touch, but nothing is certain until the fat lady sings. Just be positive.

It's a genuine birthday and I should know as I wrote his unauthorised biography - " 'orrible 'arry " (Confucious Publishing £35.50 hardback).

At birth 'arry was so ugly that the nurse slapped his mother. He had been expected to appear at least two months before, but the unusually early contractions turned out to be little 'arry twitching in the womb. After the birth, his very excited dad ran off to tell his friends and didn't come back until 'arry left home 20 years later.

It's a good read and in fact sold even more copies than "Confucious", written by Confucious and published by Cunfucious Publishing £650.25.

The last time was in Uruquay, the home of GM. sat at a table of 6 all in tears of laughter at the Clinker tale. I really think that if the Echo was on the Ball there is a really good book to be printed here putting together some of Confucious's best and some of the other really clever humour. Well done to you all. It is fantastic to read some of your comments.

Is it just me, but doesn't Andy Awful look like a paedo in that picture?
Like a member of Saville's gang...Not sure best person to run a youth set up.
Mind you, this is portsmuff, so maybe he is...
Love reading the small team fan comments over there-deluded is the word.
Unfortunately it starts at home in the pompey family.

Silly skunts.
Border control should put a larger and deeper moat around portsea, electric fences and passport control..once in you cannot come out...

It is an infestation, a maleovant society, reminds me of the film with Kurt Russell as Snake Pliskin...'Escape from New York'..

Ah, but one's never been a skate, and therein lies the difference.
True. I'd still like to know what Chinese year they were born in (a job for Confucious, methinks).

My guess is Poch was born in the year of the tiger, while 'arry was born in the year of the lying, cheating, thieving g!t.
I don't know what the official Chinese year was but my uncle Tian says in Guandong Province where he lived Mauricio's was The Year of The Beautiful Orchid and 'arry's was The Year Of The Really Annoying Little Bogie That Sticks Right At The Top Of Your Nose And Can't Be Blown Out Or Even Picked Out Using Your Little Finger.

Sound a bit too long to be true that, but he is getting a bit scatty. He called 999 in a panic this morning and asked for the fire brigade because he'd put his pants on the wrong way round and couldn't get his willy out.

Saints have to watch crafty Harry -- he's just crafty enough to get a win.
Poch's or should it be pox's record during his time with Saints can't hold a candle to honest, respectable, heart on sleeve, Nigel's record!
I hope the shyster is having second thoughts and sleepless nights over dumping Nigel.
What goes around comes around and the shyster will get his just desserts.

Well done, we're all very happy for you.

Alongside you, how many others 'own' the club? It's just that, if there are others, and I guess there are one or two other mugs, then you HAVE to share it and, therefore, you don't 'own' it but 'own' only a part of it, don't you?

That may come as a bit of a disappointment to you but there is good news, it means you 'own' only a part of the debt, which should therefore save you a bob or two.

It's good to share :)
