A MAN has been banned from all pubs and bars in a North Yorkshire town following an attack.

Lee Adam Winters, of Crosshill Lane, Selby, appeared in court charged with public disorder at the Black-A-Moor Head Inn.

Selby Magistrates heard Winters had punched a man several times, and swung several more punches which did not connect, in an incident at the pub last December.

Neil Cutte, for Winters, said the 23-year-old was in a relationship with the manageress of the Black-A-Moor Inn, who would have no problem allowing him into the pub despite the exclusion order, as is her right.

He said: “This is a regrettable matter, and something he did not want at this point in his life.

“This is not a young man who habitually causes trouble in licensed premises, but is often in licensed premises because his girlfriend is the licensee of the pub.”

A report by the probation service said “there seems to be a pattern emerging”, as Winters had previous public order offences and had previously received exclusion orders from individual pubs, but since he had recently gained full-time employment and a house with his girlfriend, he “wants to change his ways”.

Ruth Stanley, chairman of the bench, said: “We are going to follow the advice given by the probation service with regard to sentence and deal with you by a community order for 12 months and requirements are that during that peiod you will complete 120 hours of unpaid work and be subject to curfew.

“You will also be excluded from all licensed premises in Selby town centre. We will be disappointed if, in view of this, licensees in Selby town centre do not take note of this exclusion order. Licensees perhaps should be reminded that they do have an obligation of duty to members of the public going into their premises for lawful reasons.”
