Forren scores first Saints goal

VEGARD FORREN VEGARD FORREN

VEGARD Forren scored on his Saints debut last night as the club’s under-21 side were held 1-1 by Liverpool at St Mary’s.

The Norwegian international defender put Saints into a half-time lead against the club that he was going to on trial before Saints swooped in January.

Hungarian youth international Krisztian Adorjan headed an equaliser 13 minutes from time.

Saints: Gazzaniga, Chambers, Stephens, Forren, Targett, Robinson, Ward-Prowse, Moore, Seidi (McQueen, 53), Sinclair (Ariyibi, 90), Rowe.

Fantastic that we have a new centre back who can also play left back. It would be great to see him in the first team but he is not yet match fit, when he is he should start instead of Maya in centre defence.

Jesus_02 says...

Maya is not really the problem. Shaw is apparently not 100% and Fox could do with being Loaned out although Im not sure that would improve his decision making that makes him a liability.

An 80% match fit Forren is better than a fully fit Fox!!!

Was at the game. Forren looked awesome in the air and brilliant technically. His goal was class and nearly scored a better volley from outside the box. However did look unfit and was exposed for pace and sharpness as Liverpool u21s got in behind him 2 or 3 times. Also got skinned by suso in the box.

I am puzzled as to how his fitness is such an issue? Can someone remind me please? Is it just that he lacks match practice, was he injured, or what? This match will boost his confidence but this whole fitness thing makes me wonder.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm all in favour of giving him his big break in the first team and I hope he lives up to his potential. I'm just curious that every time his name is mentioned "fitness" seems to be mentioned as well.

I am glad I wasn't the only one that noticed that, Scouse should have scored on one occasion when he was done for pace, luckily Gazza scared him into hitting the shot wide. It was an enjoyable game to watch though.

Price tag doesn't equal instant fitness, be patient, we will see what he can do when he is up to speed, definitely a bit rusty, but that's no surprise as he is not familiar with the players around him or used to our method of play yet, showed enough promise for us to be optimistic.

I'll mirror what Chazza and Osprey saw last night as I froze my nuts off.
I'm not sure that last night's game necessarily showed him in a bad light having been skinned by the Spanish lad. The pass was inch perfect and there won't be many better seen at any level more senior than U21.
Forren however, did look comfortable on the ball, looked to go forward when he could and he had a good dig at goal apart from the one he scored.
For those who weren't at the game, it was played at 100mph for most of the entire 90 minutes. Both sides played at a frenetic pace and there was some great football. Liverpool had 1 goal disallowed for off-side, we had 2.
I will definately go and watch another game, especially since it was free and only cost me the 2 mile walk each way to and from home.

On another subject if you want a little giggle this U-tube link is almost as good as the one about Poopey the glory years.

How long does it take to get Match fit, if he is say 85% fit he could of been on the bench on Saturday. To help Forren to match fitness.

It was also mentioned that he had picked up a knock in training, no proof of course, but a logical explanation, and don't expect him to be an instant cure to what happened against QPR, there is a lot of work to do to avoid that again.

if the liverpool under 21s did him for pace.i hate to think what suarez and sturridge will do to him if he plays for the saints v liverpool.

I would imagine a couple of 60 minute appearances and a full ninety minutes should do the trick. Depends on the players metabalism.

I think that a bit of rustiness slowed his reactions down on this occasion, that will improve in time with anticipation negating the need for speed.

That's the problem with the internal secrecy, we can only feed off the occasional scraps that sneak out, and even then there is no way to confirm authenticity. If you trawl through enough discussion sites, and pick out a tweet or two the odd truth emerges but it is all very tenuous. All the more reason for not posting silly little requests about how long does it take for a player to get, because, frankly as Patrick Moore used to say "We just don't know".

I don't necassarily agree about the internal secrecy. My point was more the Andy Blackmore gaff in not asking about it and the last minute phone call (humourous if you heard it), but I understand your point of view..

I flew all the way from Texas to watch the match against QPR. Love St. Mary's by the way. Fox was horrible. I sat very close to the QPR idiots. From my view, Fox got burned many times. We are lucky that only resulted in one goal. We need Shaw back and healthy. It is obvious Fox is not capable of defending in the Premier League. I don't know if Forren is the answer, as I have yet to see him play. What other options do we have at left back?

Also, what is Lallana's status?
