Kelvin Davis signs new Saints deal Kelvin Davis signs new Saints deal

Saints have extended the contract of club captain Kelvin Davis until 2016, it has been announced.

The 36-year-old keeper's previous deal had been due to run through to the summer of 2014, but, despite having lost his position as the number one stopper at St Mary's, he has been given another two years.

Davis joined Saints from Sunderland in July 2006, for a fee of £1m, and has gone on to make 283 appearances for the club.

His updated contract will extend his period of service at Saints to a decade, taking him through to his testimonial season.

Davis has made it clear for some time that he wants to see out his playing days at St Mary's, and with his new deal taking him up to within a few months of his 40th birthday, it looks like he may be granted his wish.

Congratulations, Kelvin! And thanks for being such a valuable asset to our club. Your heroics last season at Leeds alone were a massive reason why we're back in the Premier League. But not just that, you stuck with us in those dark days when you could have moved to West Ham (OK, you went but then came back again in short order!)

Now, Echo sports picture editor. Would you *please* ditch the above photo which clearly came after a goal had just been conceded, and replace it with a happy, smiling Kelvin & fans!

Sorry, no room for sentiment from me. The goalkeeping dept. needs a clear out at the end of the season, what's the point of keeping KD who is clearly past his best now. Appreciate his loyalty but this to me seems a backward step.

Good to have him on the bus for a bit longer. He'll get a free bus pass soon!

Seriously though, he's obviously seen as an important part of the squad whether playing or just showing leadership as club captain. I don't get the feeling that NC is a softie so he must regard Kelvin as worth keeping on. Maybe his role will include bringing on the youngsters like Gazza and Crocker and it will help him become a coach (and perhaps like Nigel, a full blown manager!) in due course.

Looks that way - but no doubt Kelvin's also seen as a real asset to the club with a wider role than one of the senior squad goalkeepers.

Kelvin stuck with us through some bad times as well as the good and I'm delighted he's staying around.

I've still got that Leeds match stored on my Skybox and revisit it whenever my belief in miracles begins to wane.

I have been watching the Mo Po pre- match interview, the most worrying thing is that Morgan is not there, he did take a knock against QPR, I hope it isn't going to affect him this week. De Ridder is back in the fold. Mo Po said Fox may not be available, Adam should be. Forren is closer to selection. You will have to watch and listen and make your own mind up, but at least there is more information forthcoming than in the NA days. The lads certainly seem to enjoy their training sessions.

The problem I was highlighting with your post was that you seem unable just mention the Kelvin decision (of which I happen to approve, as we need a second keeper to back up Boruc). No, you manage to throw in a needless and arbitrary dig about there being a "brave new world" at the club.

You really do need to take a break from this forum as your ramblings are sounding more deranged by the day.

I'm being serious, you need to calm down, take a break and stop trying to force us to accept your black and white views.

By the way, please note that my comments here are about what you have said, not who you are. I know you're quite keen to see things as a personal attack, so I thought I'd be clear.

ah... very good point... I think that some can coach above their playing level. And I also think that Kelvin is one capable of coaching at that level. My dig is at all those who called for him to be "thanked and let go" at the end of last season who are now clapping happily and saying bravo and using incredible phrases like "rewarding loyalty". My sarcasm may have been missed but hey-ho. so to summarise as I bit you goodnight, great strategic signing, my choice for 1st keeper, nothing to do with saints rewarding loyalty - that notion is pathetic, great for Kelvin who I think has a great buzz with the lads there, great for us in the prem or champ, and finally great for all those who love anything that sounds great...... rock on kelvin.... here's hoping you get a few more games in at least before the curtain goes up on your playing career.... seriously one of my favourites ( I sound like slugger ) of recent years....

There is no such concept in our brave new world.... ;-) I have suspicion that in training kelvin turned out to be a pretty good centre half !
You do love the sound of your own voice, these days don't you? Clearly you think there are people out here who are interested in what you say...

Why don't you go away for a while and come back when you have something (however slightly so) positive to say about the club.
kelvin.... 1st choice for you or not ? for me he was and still should be so its positive for me.... if its not positive for you then thats your problem....

I know you're quite keen to see things as a personal attack, so I thought I'd be clear.
you misunderstand my stand point. I have no intention to want people to see black and white, but hypocracy is pathetic. To want Kelvin to "be thanked and let go" in the summer and now to applaud his signing is just hilarious.... you are not necessarily one of those ( I can't remember ) but loads were and then are now going to praise this signing to the skies. The irony is that i genuinely think its a good signing and I wanted him to stay last summer and remain as 1st choice so for me I sleep well on this.

Predictable as the weather, WUM status confirmed, no further need to comment.
so you don't reckon he should be our 1st choice then ??? you sung along with the rest saying he was not good enough for the prem ??? then how can he coach at that level ??? For me he is good enough and should have been our first choice from day 1. The fact that he is now being kept on because we need to cover all bases is irrelevant. I am only a wind-up-merchant to the over sensitive that hate the truth. to all the kelvin-bashers on here this is a bolt-out-of-the blue... to your mini-club its "great" but you have not got the faintest idea why !!!
"you sung along with the rest saying he was not good enough for the prem ??? then how can he coach at that level ???"

Your logic is "if you're not good enough to play Prem football, you're not good enough to coach it".

Thank that through for ten seconds then defend it.
ah... very good point...
Do you spend a lot of time looking in the mirror.

deserved this for his perormance alone @ Elland road last year, but judging by the photo and the crowd behind it looks like he's just let one slip in at the near post again ;-)

MRSA s now using any story on here to have a go at `the mindless masses` or NC. which is rather unfortunate. I don't recall many saying pre-season that kelv would be out of his depth in the prem, I do recall a few moaning about kelv after a few games when he was being caught out at his near post, yet most of those also said they had great respect for kelv and that the defence wasnt helping things. people are allowed to think that kelv is not NO.1 but a good NO.2. everything in mrsa`s world is either black or white.

I think its good to keep kelv on the books AB`s contract is up in the summer and unless he has signed a new one that I haven't heard about that means he could be off, so we then need a new keeper and to still have kelv as `back up` makes total sense to me.

Me too!

It makes total sense to most of us 101 but that is because we are blind muppets and too stupid to see the truth in Migraine's world

We don't really understand the dark set-ups, conspiracies and smoke screens going on behind the scenes at SFC.

I particularly like it when anything that doesn't fit in with his view is 'spin'. Then he enlightens us with his own 'spin' thereby spinning the 'spin'. Personally I blame the Illuminati!

KD QUOTEs: "Since the Liebherr family has taken over with Nicola Cortese running the Club, it has been non-stop success so why wouldn't I want to be a part of that? It was an easy one for me."

"The Chairman has made promises that he's kept, and probably done even more than he's promised".

"There's a lot of trust between the team and that man, so we're all very happy to be Saints players and we all want to be part of our continued success.".

MGRA is hinting that KD is just saying that to keep his job, and that it is all untrue? One minute he is backing KD, the next he is calling him a liar, and he says that we are hypocritical.

I have searched for a post where I have said that KD is not good enough, I can't find it. It is however MPs job to pick the team I will leave it to him.

This is what I was saying in the pub last night - NC clearly feels that he has the ability to drive the club forward in some capacity, and is happy to help him continue his career. Well deserved recognition in my eyes.

We need a new, top number one Keeper for next season. So which keeper is leaving, or is KD going on the coaching side .
