Norwich are controversially awarded a penalty in added time after Holt goes to ground in the corner of the area under Shaw's challenge. It looked soft, but justice is done as Boruc makes a wonderful save from Holt to palm it away.

4:52pm

SAINTS SUBSTITUTION (90 mins): Rodriguez off, Puncheon on.

4:49pm

88 mins: Fonte booked for a foul on Becchio.

4:41pm

81 mins: Johnson booked for a trip on Rodriguez.

4:39pm

NORWICH SUBSTITUTION (79 mins): Kamara off, Becchio on.

4:39pm

SAINTS SUBSTITUTION (79 mins): Lallana off, Ward-Prowse on.

4:35pm

CHANCE (75 mins): Holt puts Snodgrass through, he goes round Boruc, but Yoshida makes a wonderful last-second challenge to clear before the midfielder can tap into an empty net.

4:30pm

SAINTS SUBSTITUTION (70 mins): Ramirez off, Guly on.

4:28pm

CHANCE (68 mins): Lambert puts a free-kick from just outside the box into the wall, after Snodgrass had pulled Shaw back right on the edge of the area.

4:20pm

CHANCE (60 mins): Ramirez plays a nice pass to Rodriguez, who has space 18 yards from goal. He prods a quick shot forward that Bunn palms straight to Lambert on the edge of the area. The striker's left foot volley rises over the crossbar, however.

4:10pm

CHANCE (50 mins): Rodriguez gets to the byline and fires a low ball across the face of goal. Garrido clears it, but straight to Lallana 12 yards out. But, with the goal gaping, the skipper fires his left foot shot over the bar.

3:47pm

44 mins: Lallana booked for arguing with Clattenburg after a handball had been awarded against him.

3:37pm

NORWICH SUBSTITUTION (34 mins): Pilkington forced off with an injury. Replaced by Wes Hoolahan.

3:36pm

CHANCE (33 mins): Shaw bursts down the left and fires in a shot that is beaten away by Bunn at the near post.

3:32pm

CHANCE (29 mins): Snodgrass fires in a well-struck free-kick from 25 yards. The movement on the ball gave Boruc a problem, and he nearly allowed it to slip past him, only to get enough on it to divert it clear.

3:31pm

CHANCE (28 mins): Lambert releases Ramirez down the inside left channel. He tries to chip the advancing Bunn, but the keeper sticks a hand up and is just able to reach the ball to deny the Saints player.

3:22pm

CHANCE (19 mins): Best effort of the game so far. Ramirez rolls a ball into Schneiderlin just inside the area. He, in turn, lays it back to Lallana on the edge of the box, but the captain's sweet right-foot shot is well tipped over by Norwich keeper Mark Bunn.

3:19pm

16 mins: Grant Holt booked after a foul on Morgan Schneiderlin.

3:11pm

CHANCE (8 mins): Saints work the ball across the field and find Maya Yoshida marauding forward from his right-back position. He lines up a shot from 20 yards, but leans back and puts it well over.

3:00pm

Referee Mark Clattenburg gets the match underway.

Finances weren’t the only bit of news emanating from St Mary’s this week. Club captain Kelvin Davis had his contract extended until 2016. It was a bit of a surprise announcement, given that the 36-year-old keeper has been consigned to the substitutes’ bench for much of the season and already had a deal that ran through to the summer of 2014. But he’s a top man, Kelvin, and few would begrudge him another couple of years that may allow him to achieve his wish of finishing his playing career at the club. Here’s what he had to say...

When I first came to this club, to say that I would have been here for this period of time is something that I would have dreamed about. For that dream to have materialised and for me to be feeling good is something I am really, really pleased with.

Kelvin Davis

Saints this week released interim financial results covering their first six months as a Premier League club (up to December 31, 2012). Finances might be boring, but football club finances are...well, they’re still boring...but they’re also important. There was plenty of good news for Saints too. Here’s a summary:

  • The club made a profit of £900,000 before player trading for the first six months back in the top flight.
  • Their revenue nearly trebled, from £11.6m to £33.1m.
  • Wages have come down to 59% of turnover, compared to 102% in 2011/12.
  • Markus Liebherr and his estate invested £38m since the 2009 takeover (£5m of that came in 2011/12).
  • All of that has now been formally converted into equity, effectively removing the debt.
  • A “low-interest” loan is funding the expansion of the training ground and investment in infrastructure. This stood at £3.8m at the end of the last financial year.
  • The club paid a total of £5.3m in one-off bonuses to players and staff on promotion.

2:17pm

Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino has also been speaking to reporters. Here’s a little snippet of what he had to say...

We can't get really ahead of ourselves. We need to take every game as it comes. 'The game against Manchester City seems quite tough and difficult, but we did manage it quite well. Instead, games that could have been easier, like QPR, we have had problems in. At the end of the day, what is most important is that the team finds a regularity in terms of the mental aspect. In a tactical manner and a way of proposing football, the team is playing in a regular way over these last six games. We just need to find our regular way of playing in a collective and individual manner, which was perhaps missing against QPR.

Mauricio Pochettino

Norwich manager Chris Hughton has been speaking to the media ahead of this fixture, and you can pretend like you’re an East Anglia-based football reporter by pressing play on the below video and watching him speak in his press conference...

(Ignore the fact that the thumbnail seems to be of Hughton when he was Birmingham manager, ahead of a Europa League tie. It is the right video when you get to it.)

1:46pm

There’s been some GREAT matches between Norwich and Saints over the years, and while today’s will inevitably end up being a painfully dull affair now I have written that, here’s a reminder of perhaps the best of all: It’s Ken Monkou and Matt Le Tissier on Norwich 4 Saints 5.

1:38pm

NORWICH SQUAD NEWS: Norwich will again be without midfielder Alex Tettey because of a knee problem, while ex-Saint Andrew Surman is also sidelined long-term with a similar problem. On-loan Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara is pressing for a place in the starting XI after some impressive displays as a substitute. England goalkeeper John Ruddy continues his rehabilitation from thigh surgery and is set for a return at the end of March.

1:36pm

SAINTS SQUAD NEWS: Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Adam Lallana has been back in training after suffering a concussion in last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to QPR. Danny Fox is a doubt with a leg injury, but Luke Shaw should be fit to return to the starting lineup anyway. Pochettino said there are a couple of other concerns, but would not reveal who. Vegard Forren, who is yet to feature since his January arrival from Molde, played for the under-21s earlier in the week and could earn a place in the squad.

Hello Saints fans, and welcome to the Daily Echo’s live blog covering this afternoon’s Premier League encounter between Norwich and Saints, at Carrow Road. As you and the rest of our lovely audience will no doubt already be aware, this is an important afternoon for both teams, as they look to cement their status in the top flight. There is a greater urgency surrounding Saints’ position, though, as they start the day just three points above the drop zone, compared to the rather comfortable eight-point cushion that the Canaries currently enjoy. After back-to-back defeats, a positive result would be a truly significant boost for Saints. The good news is they have enjoyed plenty of success against their opponents in the last few years, having not lost any of the previous six encounters between the teams. Stay with us for all the build-up, team news and match updates.

Well, Pochie clearly decided to go for the more "artistic" 11. I just hope his lack of experience in the PL doesn't make him underrate Norwich. They are a tough nut to crack.

In a welsh accent...'I'm not appy'...seriously if we stay up we will go places..if not that's four years to recover..messy business..

Norwich are, I believe, the top scorers from headers, in the Premier League and also play quite a lot of long ball picking up the knockdowns.

Even Adkins commented about how we did a number on Clyne, when he was at Palace, by putting Lambert on him to win easy high balls.

I think Holt actually tends to position himself more against the left back, so we'll see how Shaw copes with that and hope he gets good support.

This line up makes sense to me.

We battle hard, create plenty of chances but leave the other team around to score and take all of the points. Still to much ball watching - Yoshida on Holt for example. If we put two or three away, we can survive the chances we give the opposition. This summe we will need a good striker.
Need another solid peformance next week. Weather did not help us.

Some honest questions for anyone who watched the stream (because I didn't).
1. Possible pen or definately not?
2. Were we robbed by bad luck and Clut the clot? Or ...
3. Were we gulity of missing too many chances we should have taken?

As I have said in previous posts what is really worrying me is Saints are playing well but just not winning. Once again we have dominated the shots on & off target but failed to score. Keep thinking one day Saints will thrash someone - let's hope it is next week!

Meanwhile hats off to Boroc.
I think the law of averages says that some of those chances are going to go in, hopefully against Scouse.

Watched the 2nd half and thought we looked OK given the conditions. Lallana should have scored on about 60-mins instead of blazing it over the bar!
I thought Norwich were poor and results elsewhere makes interesting reading of the table.
Just hope we step up to the mark at home in the next 2-weeks. We seem to raise our game at home to decent teams. Liverpool threat Suarez - Chelsea we owe them for the Cup game. 6-points would be a miracle, 4-would be great, and two would be good. I would be starting to get concerned if we register only 1 or 2!
Well done David Connerly - shame it's seeing them progress!

I love Poch.. my lip reading skills are pretty good.. he went out there and clearly said to the ref in English:

never pen, described rightly as embarrassing on Soccer Saturday.
We weren't robbed though. Our poor finishing again is what cost us.as it has in all the games so far under MP, but also generally over the whole season.
We also gave a few dangerous
opportunities to Norwich, so shouldn't be too gutted with a point.
Need to get some more luck in front of goal, but to be fair, our finishing needs to be greatly improved..

Not a lot of mention about the lallana miss yet. Considering the stick our defenders get for a mistake or own goal. The miss today is just as bad as any own goal. I love the lad but that has to be a goal.

The clue was in the statement by the way, I said Sounds like! Look at my 5-14 pm post. However, my niece and two nephews were at the game and had texted several messages including a critical one about the Referees performance, so my comment was not without evidence. Apparently they were stuck in the Coach in the Coach Park as one coach had broken down and traffic was gridlocked after a four car pile up on the road out. Snowing heavily and anticipating a long slow journey home. Got to give the travelling support some credit, they were great today.

You know what? Adkins was slated for choosing to play Guly. Now MP is being slated for it.

Has it occurred to ANY of you that two managers might be right and you might be wrong?

Do you think they both selected him just to annoy you, or because they thought he might help us to win?

All the Guly slaters might want to pass that past a brain cell or two before going on the attack.

Spot on, Velleity.

It seems to me (without, I might add, having seen or heard any of the match in any way what so ever) that, given Adam's miss when apparently he should have scored, Poch's biggest mistake today was sleecting Adam ahead of Guly :0) (cue the indignation!)

As for the defence, it wouldn't have been my choice but it gained a rare shut out, so well done all 5 of them - and Cork and Spiderman.

Come on Abbiscuits, get some perspective, few of us have seen Mayuka and, those who have, haven't raved about him. I hope he someday becomes a central part of our team but right now it seems he's well short of challenging for a starting position.

Guly is a great link player.... but he is not capable in my opinion of directly threatening the goal often or at all in the Prem. That and his lazy style means those who know nothing about football will generally slate him. I happen to think he is a good player, but not with our current players and set-up. There were times last season when his use in the squad seemed a bit random and he was either superb or dire.... But there were times when he showed what he could do....

Being honest, if it was only about choosing a 'best' 11 (not accounting for tactics, opposition, form, injuries etc.), given the current squad, Guly wouldn't make my first team, he'd be on the bench. Behind Rickie, I'd play Jayrod on the left, Punch on the right and Adam down the middle.

Assuming we stay up and strengthen, this might be Guly's last season in the 25 but I'll always be grateful to him for his contribution to our form in the early half of last season; and while he is here, he'll always have my support.

Just caught MotD and now feel happy with a point in difficult circumstances. Never a pen, but the Shaw shirt tug in the first half was. That said, didn't someone mention that we should have had one, too? If so, how come it wasn't in the MotD highlights?

I hope all the fans got home okay. Fantastic away supporters - the best in the world. Time for bed here. Night all.

apparently there was a penalty that should have gone Southampton's way.

Tbh I'm getting a bit sick and tired with some of the bullsh*t decisions that have gone against Saints this season and the ones where we should have definitely got a penalty or a free kick. AND the players who foul, get booked and then continue to foul but don't get sent off when playing against us.

However We're still in the Premier League, we can still avoid the drop. So I mustn't complain too loudly, lest I be compared to a Skate
