Artur open to new Saints deal

Artur Boruc
Artur Boruc insists he is leaving discussions over an extension to his Saints contract in the hands of his agent and the club.
The keeper emerged as the hero in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Norwich, brilliantly saving a controversial penalty in added time from Grant Holt.
The 33-year-old credited the stop to goalkeeping coach Toni Jiménez, for his homework on which way the Canaries striker was most likely to go.
Boruc, who has cemented the number one position at St Mary’s, is due to be out of contract in the summer, having only joined last September on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Saints have extended the contracts of a number of players in recent weeks, and Boruc’s recent performances mean he also warrants consideration.
But the Polish stopper claims he is not getting personally involved in talks and is instead leaving that up to his representative.
“I’ll leave it to my agent and the club. I’m just doing my best and I’m working hard, so we’ll see what’s going to happen,” he said.
Boruc’s full-stretch save from Holt perhaps completed his redemption with the Saints fans, following an incident last October when he was alleged to have thrown a water bottle at supporters during the 2-1 home defeat to Spurs, in only his second game for the club.
The former Celtic and Fiorentina keeper was dropped after that match, while the club conducted an investigation, and although he was quickly given the all-clear to return to contention, he did not play again until January.
Since then, though, he has brought some much-needed stability to the goalkeeping position. While the highlight of his time with Saints was undoubtedly Saturday’s vital penalty stop, Boruc refused to take credit for it himself, instead praising the role of Jiménez.
“The goalkeeping coach has done his homework, so it was quite easier for me – a bit easier,” he said of the former Spain international, who was Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant at Espanyol.
Boruc’s stop helped end a run of five matches without a clean sheet, making his save all the more satisfying.
“It was a tough game for us and defensively we were playing good and looking good,” he said.
“It’s a good point for us, especially here, away from home. It’s always difficult.
“We’re pretty happy with the clean sheet as well. We missed for that the last couple of weeks.”
Boruc added: “It was a bit of misunderstandings that we didn’t keep a clean sheet (recently), and that was important for us (on Saturday) and from now on it is going to be better.”
The point at Norwich moved Saints four clear of the relegation zone, although Wigan, who are 18th, now have a game in hand, having been in FA Cup action at the weekend.
Victories for QPR and Aston Villa on Saturday have brought those two teams closer to Saints, who now face home matches against Liverpool and Chelsea.
But Boruc still expects them to survive.
“I’m quite confident,” he said. “We don’t look like a team who should be relegated and that’s the main thing, you know. We are quite confident. I think it’s a matter of time and we are going to grab points.”

& here he is, with the last desperate inane comments of a fan of a soon to be non-club, free-falling through the divisions, ridiculed by the country, hated by all for their thieving, tax-dodging antics. A shining example to all of how NOT to behave or a run a football club.
Meanwhile, back on the sane side of the M27, well done Artur for your redemption & fine performances lately.
The penalty save was terrific & of course extremely timely!
Personally, I would be happy for him to be given a contract extension.

After extensive tests, however, it has been confirmed that there are no traces of this disgusting blue poopey in the Premier League or Championship. League One is suffering, traces of this blue stuff, declared not fit for human consumption has been found, but steps have been taken to eradicate it.
League two have expressed concern that this corrupt material, a result of years of criminal behavior and cheating is going to be discovered, perhaps as soon as later this year. However, scientists have assured the professional game that it is very likely this low grade material will soon be totally eradicated and quarantined in the non-league until a permanent solution can be found.

Déjà vu! Aren't you one of our pet stains on the News site?
Of course if the club is finally bought by the fans they'll turn up for one home game to make it look like they were part of it, but the fact is that the vast majority of your fan base deserted you when you needed them most. Disgraceful and not to be forgotten.
As gate records show, this wasn't the case with the Saints, even despite the Lowe era. We stuck with them, you guys ran as soon as the money ran out.
Now run back and add to the comments on the News site, if you put as many comments on their as you did here you'd quadruple the comments volume (and that's a conservative estimate), but you probably wouldn't have anyone else to talk to.

To my mind 2 things were confirmed on Saturday.
1. The old definition of a good referee as being someone you never notice seems to be rapidly disappearing. It seems some referees now want to become celebrities, willing to make the most game-changing decisions even though the evidence is not conclusive.
Common sense says that when it comes to penalties and sending off's you need to be 95% sure, but increasingly such decisions are at best 50/50. Ridiculous.
2. Another game where we've outplayed the opposition and dropped more points.
If our highly paid boys don't quickly learn how to take the opportunities their approach play generates and actually start hitting shots on target from more than 6 yards out we could soon be even deeper in the mire.
"We''re too good to go down" and "we were the better team" may be true to a degree, but that will be of little comfort if carved on our Premiership tombstone.
Still think we'll make it but all around us seem to be raising their game while we're doing the opposite. Worrying.

We'll need Cork and Spidey (and probably Davis too) to really show their worth in the midfield because that was where Liverpool totally bullied Spurs out of the game. I do hope one of them absolutely flattens Suarez - he's such a horrible little rat of a man. I can imagine Artur's going to need to be amazing again.
On the flipside, Rickie will be straining at the leash. It could be epic.

As I have previously posted the most worrying aspect of Saints' current position is they have regularly been the better team but lost or at best drawn. The number of points dropped from a winning position highlights this. Just about 1/3rd of those points would see us in c10th position and relative safety and happily planning for next season. This trend has to be reversed quickly or I fear the worst. We must achieve at least 4 points in the next two games. Two losses could see us in the bottom three and a real survival fight on our hands with Saints' retention of Premiership status out of their hands and dependent of other teams losing.
I am loathed to raise this point but despite long term contracts being signed I suspect should the unthinkable happen the team will be short of a few current faces next season.

I see the media are starting to try to stir things up on MP's record in charge in the hope that story could still materialise. It will only resurface if we allow it to.
Yes, we are not getting as many points as we should be getting, but we will stay up if we play as we are and stick to our ethics, luck will even itself out, we'll win enough home games and win the odd one away too.
The 'dropping points from winning positions' stat is all very nice, but it fails to take into account the fact that this has, in many cases, been taking the lead early against some of the best teams in the league, usually away from home. These are games where many of our rivals haven't come close to worrying the opposition.
We've played 10 clubs home and away so far this season and only one has done the double over us - and that's Manchester United with a fair bit of luck.
IMO we will only go down if the atmosphere at home games becomes detrimental. If not we will survive. Only just, but we will survive and kick on next season.
Look at MPs games in charge. Of all of them I think realistically you can only point at QPR as a game where we have got 3 fewer points than you would have predicted beforehand and that is balanced by 3 bonus points verses Man City.
Newcastle is arguable, but anyone who gets a point from there would see it as a bonus, so a defeat is not exactly a disaster.
Yes, we could have got more based on performances, but that's something to be positive about, not negative.

We will be OK this season if, and only if, the fans and players don't resort to panic mode.

QPR beat Chelsea at The Bridge, have an impressive squad and have been under-performing all season, it would be reasonable to expect them to gel at some point. Norwich have a great home record so we had no right to expect 3 points there. Newcastle have imported a new squad since our last meeting. Every game has to be taken seriously and nothing should be taken for granted. One thing is for sure, there is not a single team in this league that we should fear, we have outplayed the best, with some luck and quality finishing we should get our reward.

Clearly you are depressed because you are in the best league in the world, the place we've been wanting to get back to for years and we're in a position where we have our fate in our own hands, having shown we can hold our own against the very best and maybe stabilise our position ready to kick on next year as planned.
You may be right about the coming fixtures, who knows, but if we all think like that then, yes, we will go down, because I can tell you that our rivals, though worse off than us, are not about to throw in the towel and give up like you seem to be (from a winning position).
Luckily, games on paper very rarely go the way the form book or common sense would suggest.
Using your formula QPR would have lost against us and Reading would have won both of the two easy home games they've just got zero points from.
Yes, we could be in the bottom three, but we could realistically still be four points ahead or more having got two of our three hardest remaining fixtures out of the way and with Reading away on the horizon.
Keep the faith and don't pre-judge results. I expect a few people pre-judged the QPR result and it didn't quite turn out as planned.

Citeh was them messing up rather than us buying the ball in the net..we are simply to lightweight in front of goal..
..it irk's me no end to see teams with half (if that) of our overall talent ultimately present more of a threat than we do...
Problem is we need two RL's one to supply one to score them..he cannot be in 2 places at the same time....

He's entitled to his opinion of course but some of us see every game as an opportunity for 3 points and don't regard fixtures as a foregone conclusion! If they were the bottom 6 would be Reading, Saints, West Ham, Wigan, West Brom and Swansea according to the bookies pre-season.

Any team in this league can beat any other team on their day and if they called it right tactically.
Saints have achieved dominance in possession and denied a majority of teams they have played from getting what they expected.
They have also lost alot of points because they couldnt close out the game. They were shown to be naive at the begginning of the season when some opposition players , frankly, cheated.
when the players get hot under the collar they think an appeal to the ref might change a decicion.
i have never in fifty five years seen this tactic succeed. Only the captain should even speak to the ref, it looks pro and allows the team to concentrate on the game and not be emotionally led into unforced errors.
with the Kop you can expect a whole range of artful dodges. be prepared,
Leave the ref alone and Shaw if he plays has to be spotless after Hughton Highllighting his little caper in the six yard box.
Come on You SAINTS.

Did anyone see Liverpool yesterday? I don't think we've yet played a team in such a rich vein of form. It'll be a test.
He could be sent off two or three times over every game, with his sly & not so sly kicks, flicks, leaving a foot in, off the ball slaps, language, etc, etc, etc...
A horrible, horrible excuse for a man.
I of course hope we beat Liverpool, & that Suarez is sent off in the process.
We wound up 'Arry. Did that help us?

SO50 Saint wrote:Agreed. It's a joke. Am I right in thinking we actually increased our gap to the bottom three on Saturday after a tough away game?
I fancy us to get 4 points from the next 2 games. No-one will expect us to and I feel we will raise our game against these teams. SFC you are right what you say about QPR but we can't keep dwelling on that game it's been and gone.
Yes, Wigan have a game in hand but it is vs Man City away, plus the fixture congestion is set to build up for them.
From this thread you'd think we'd just got hammered.
If you'd offered me this position at the start of the season or even more so in November I'd have bitten your hand off. Plus we've done it playing excellent football with positivity.
Can everyone maybe cheer up a little bit?
Out of interest - what good does moping around do for our cause, bar spreading anxiety?
He's entitled to his opinion of course but some of us see every game as an opportunity for 3 points and don't regard fixtures as a foregone conclusion! If they were the bottom 6 would be Reading, Saints, West Ham, Wigan, West Brom and Swansea according to the bookies pre-season.
Our job is to keep the faith.

And we have two of the worst examples. Hooiveld goes long far too often and it’s just a waste. But, Yoshida, otherwise a better footballer that Hooiveld, is the worst passer I have even seen. At Norwich he was particularly bad – as bad an example of the iron rule that I have ever seen (one exception was the neat **** over the top towards the end). Thankfully, his reading of the game and his ability to intercept are as good as his passing is bad.
They both need to either give it to the midfield or full backs or hoof it into Row Z, as far up the park as possible. Better to suffer a throw in than give it to the opposition in open play.

We will be OK this season if, and only if, the fans and players don't resort to panic mode.

SFCSaint, you're either a Skunt or you need to grow a pair. If you think you're going to deflate our morale then you're very much mistaken. Reading have as good as admitted they're down with today's news, QPR still have a mountain to climb and Wigan are sh!te. That will be the bottom three. Cheers.
PS what did Mack say? He's always quite 'route one' but never especially offensive?

Can we start a petition to get him reinstated (Mack, not McDermott)? We could call it 'Return of the Mack'. We could even get Mark Morrison to do a benefit gig.
Still, on Mack's behalf and in his absence:
COME ON ORIENT!
On the plus side, if word of all this reaches Brisbane Road tomorrow evening, it'll inspire Orient to greatness; not that they'll need that much of it.
