Stags floor Frome with left-foot crackers

AFC TOTTON floored Frome Town with two left-foot crackers at the Testwood Stadium tonight.

After seeing off Redditch United on Saturday, Steve Riley’s Stags celebrated their second 2-0 victory in the space of four days in the Southern Premier Division.

Frome had the best of the first half but failed to make their superiority count and were punished in the 44th minute when Stefan Brown, below, fired Totton ahead. Centrally placed some 35 yards out, the Basingstoke Town loan striker unleashed a left-foot beauty which beat Darren Chitty all ends up.

Already without leading scorer Richard Gillespie, Totton lost Jono Davies to injury after 40 minutes, opening the door for dual-signed Totton & Eling striker Craig Feeney to make his second appearance off the bench.

With 56 minutes gone, it looked as if the 20-year-old had opened his Southern Premier account but, having raised his flag and put if down again, the linesman changed his mind once more and the ‘goal’ was disallowed.

Totton’s second finally arrived in the 81st minute from the left boot of AFC Bournemouth loanee Baily Cargill who struck a low shot to the ’keeper’s right from just outside the area.

Six minutes earlier Cargill had gone close, beating three players on a mazy run before firing just past the far post.

The down side for tenth-placed Totton was another yellow card for right-back Ryan Hill. He joins Ross Bottomley on ten bookings and both face two-match suspensions.

You've done it again, Echo. The club shirt sponsors won't be best pleased.
