Hodgson names England squad

Rio Ferdinand Rio Ferdinand

Roy Hodgson has named his England squad for this month's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro.

As expected, there is no Saints representation in the side, although two of the club's former players do feature, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The big news from the announcement is that Rio Ferdinand is recalled to the squad, having not yet featured under Hodgson's reign.

England will travel to San Marino on Friday, March 22, before then heading to Montenegro for a testing trip on Tuesday, March 26.

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Ben Foster, Joe Hart, Fraser Forster.

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand , Glen Johnson, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker.

Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Leon Osman, Scott Parker , Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott, Ashley Young.

Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Daniel Welbeck.

Why is Rickie not here? He should be there, as should Puncheon. Maybe even Cork. That is poor Hodgson.

Don't worry everyone, Welbeck will do absolutely nothing as usual. Lambert would provide so much more than Welbeck, such as winning headers and his passing are a million times better than Welbeck. One day Rickie will be in it, it's too big of a crime to not happen.

I think NC should invite Woy to SMS for a friendly between his make-weight also-rans and an England-only Saints 11.

England would look something like this:
Fraser Forster, Chris Smalling, Rio, Michael Dawson, Kyle Walker, Scott Parker, Tom Cleverley, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck.

Saints would look like this:
Kelv, Shaw, Clyne, Stephens, Martin, Cork, JWP, Lallana, Punch, JayRod, Rickie.

We're a bit weak at the back, but I know who my money's on.

Hodgson is the kind of manager who would only ever pick players from big clubs. Although I feel for RL I couldn't give a toss about the national team anyway.

I concur welbeck is pathetic, if he played for any other club he would not get a sniff, also the ox is not that great either, apparently if you play for the big 4 or 5 you automatically deserve a spot Evan if your average, this is why I couldn't care less how the national team dose in any companions.
