Hooiveld: Emotions at Norwich ran too high
5:32pm Thursday 14th March 2013 in Sport
By Simon Peach
Jos Hooiveld
Defender Jos Hooiveld accepts the Saints players lost their heads after Norwich were awarded a penalty in last weekend's Premier League clash between the sides.
The Football Association have charged the club with failing to control their players after referee Mark Clattenburg ruled that Luke Shaw fouled Grant Holt just inside the penalty area.
Artur Boruc kept out Holt’s subsequent spot-kick, but Saints’ players continued to protest after the final whistle in the 0-0 draw and were joined on the pitch by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The club have until 4pm tomorrow to respond to the charge.
''If people cross the line, then of course you have to be charged, but I think at that moment we were fighting to keep that clean sheet,'' Hooiveld said.
''We had fought the whole of what was a tough game and tough circumstances, then they were awarded a penalty which in our eyes was not the right decision.
''Then the emotions went a little bit high and maybe we got a little too close. I think whatever happens after that, it is not up to us to decide.''
Asked if Southampton had been out of order, Hooiveld added: ''Not really. I think it is also in the moment in which it happened and how it happened.
''Football is a game of emotions and of course it has to be directed in the right way.
''But sometimes if you feel you have been done an injustice as a football player you lose your head a little bit.
''I think that's what happened and what is going to happen, I don't really know.''

He wasn't in the ref's face about it - he seemed very controlled in the circumstances. But I'm pleased we've got a real competitor with genuine passion running the show. If that rubs off on the players then so much the better. He'll probably get a touchline ban but it's not the end of the world.

disgusting would be Punch actually taking a dump at the corner flag. Or a club going bust at least twice while stitching up it's many creditors and cheating the Nation out of taxes that should be paid, and then crying about how unfair it all is.
this incident could be defined as 'rowdy' or 'poor disciplined', the actions of the players were not 'disgusting' as you put it. But then I don't know why I would be expecting a balanced and fair opinion from a supporter of the little club down the road.
furthermore, I trust by your comment that you are talking about ALL football players in pretty much every league going....
I mean, the players for your little club would NEVER behave in a disgusting manner would they?

Funny how when Man Utd do that nothing happens, but when we do something (and it wasn't even aggressive, it was controlled!) we get reprimanded for it. It is the FA (again) trying to please the big clubs and ignore the 'little' ones. It is a shame how football is run so politically sometimes.

I remember years ago a very short @rsed p!ssed little ginger Scottie, having been chucked out of a club by two huge Serbian bouncers, pointing up at them and sneering: "Ah'll get yees, yer fukcers. Ah know yer faces an' ah'll git yees....one at a time."
Hang though - of course, you mean we're the bouncers!

Althought I am not in favour of the ref being challenged in that way.
It goes to prove how committed our players are becoming under the new management.
I admired Nigel and his tollerance and was shocked when he was given the heave-ho but Nigel, bless him, would probably have fined his players and then tried to find the possitives in the issue.
Pochettino rightly though was horrified at the carp decision that this consistently poor ref made.
I listened to the game on Solent and sighed when I heard the refs name before the match.
I also heard the total disbelief of the 2 commentators at his penalty decision.
We cant all be wrong about him,can we?
If it wasn't for that brilliant save by Boruk he could have changed the whole of our season in that moment.
COYS
I make no excuse for repeating this post.
Like a number of previous posters on here I am excited by the potential future of our football club.
Small provincial club?
We may have been!
Not now, we are where we should always have been.
Lets prove this to all and sundry tommorow, once again.
Lets make the ground bounce with noise.
Lets show the bias media, the bias FA,the likes of the so called big clubs,i.e.the Liverpools, the Manchesters, the Arsenals of this world.
WE WONT BE MARCHED OVER!
To all the negs.
Saints are here to stay.
GET USED TO IT!
COYS.
