Poch wants keeper Boruc to stay

Artur Boruc Artur Boruc

Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino says he will be “really pleased” if Artur Boruc stays at the club beyond this summer.

The keeper is out of contract at the end of the season, having only signed a short-term deal when he joined in September.

But Boruc has established himself as the number one choice in goal at St Mary’s, and again turned in a strong display in the 3-1 win over Liverpool.

The 33-year-old has said he will leave discussions to his agent and the club, and while Pochettino said similar he also admitted he would love to have him back next term.

“It’s clear to me and the club that we are happy with Boruc, but those are negotiations that need to happen between the club and the player,” said Pochettino.

“But, if you ask me about Boruc, I will say that I’m really happy with him and really pleased that he stays here.”

Pochettino also revealed that the club are keeping tabs on a number of potential transfer targets at home and abroad, ahead of the summer.

“The club already has a really big structure in which we are following different players, not only in the Premier League, but in different leagues,” he said.

“And, of course, in these two months that I have been here I have a lot of information and when the season is finished of course we will be looking at how we proceed in that manner.”

I thought he was a clown at first but he's certainly proved his worth and is unlikely to get a better offer than being in the starting line up for us. Sign him up now!

At 33 he could carry on for another 5 years, so long as he maintains his fitness.
The way he carries himself, he looks like he has that touch of arrogance that a lot of really good players have, in the knowledge that they are good at what they do.
The defence certainly seems more relaxed with him behind them.
And to be fair, as a result of this, they've shielded him quite well.
Other than the penalty save, at Norwich, he hasn't had too much to do.

with the penalty save at Norwich, that point won maybe the point that keeps us up. Similar to the goalkeeping of Kelvin at Leeds last season. Who knows. But he is well worth keeping in MO.

Totally agree and sign him and SRL on new 3 year deals. Must keep our quality players and say thank you to the rest.

Massive changes at St Marys in the summer - 15 players to leave and only a few in for our weak areas.

Out:
Richardson Butterfield Dickson Reeves Seabourne Martin Chaplow Hammond Barnard Forte Sharp De Ridder Guly Lee and Gazza (loan)

In:
Right Back Left Back Winger Centre Back and a fox in the box.

Still buzzing after Saturday

To me he appears to have a presence in goal which we have not had since Niemi, you just feel that they may get past the defence but then they have to negotiate "big Artur" I also like the way in which he tries to catch the ball which in effect kills it, rather than just to try and get their body in the way of it, which then puts pressure on defenders to have to deal with the rebound and also gives the opposition another bite at the cherry

Likewise, I can't disagree too much with this, although I think Reeves is worth keeping (and loaning out).

Also, word has it that we have another young left back coming through (Osprey will know his name), so that may be enough cover for Shaw.

Definitely need a second right back to push Clyne. Butterfield and Richardson have both served us well but we have to push on, and at this stage of their careers, they need to enjoy playing.

I agree about Gazza, too; loan him out with an instant recall if needed. He needs games, just as Bart did.

Matt Targett, a local lad looks promising, and in Ryan Seager we have a youngster who can score a a goal or two and may step up to the plate soon.

Never doubted his ability, just needed to get a few games under his belt to get back to being the quality keeper that he is.
The defence have become confident knowing that he is there.
Would be good to sign him for a few more years.
Being a free agent at the end of the season will give him a good number of other options.

Can see your thinking but feel we still have a lot to do before assuming we'll be playing premier league football next season.

I've rated Boruc from day one since he came here, and was irritated with the way that he was treated by our fans. Since Boruc has reached match fitness, and got a few games under his belt, he seems to be going from strength.
Boruc has an air of confidence about him that has seemingly been missing from Kelvin, and Gazza, and that feeds to the defence. He is starting to dominate his box, and when in a one-on-one situation, he stands up similar to the way Schmeichel used to for Man Utd.

You don't get rated one of the top 5 keepers in the world for nothing. Yes this was a few years ago, but at the age of 33, Boruc should be at his peak.

Sign him up now.

I would keep Reeves, still young enough to keep for the future. And also Guly , good enough for the squad. Maybe also Billy Sharp , another good squad player. Guly & Sharp staying will obviously depend on who comes in.

He has done well sign him up and get in another world class keeper too.we need at least top international class players challenging for each position.there has got to be a mass exodus of the fringe players and we need exciting replacements coming in.i envisage a few spanish and south american signings in the summer plus a few name english players.Give CORTESE and MP THEY THINK BIG so lets go for the creme de la creme and then premier champions within 3 seasons.

There have been a few good saves. Two that spring to mind are Coutinho on Saturday and, never, ever forget, the save against Van Persie. The look on VP's face after the save was a picture of disbelief.

I have no fear at all when he goes for the ball. He goes for it, he gets it.

I disagree. Yes he had a very shaky start, but since then he has continued to improve and had made a number of good saves. I would take him over Butland any day and he will get better.

I was very dissapointed in his actions in his first game.
He gave the appearance of someone who was only there for the money.
Admittedly he was hassled by a supporter but he is a senior proffesional player he should have blanked him and kept his concentration.
I know he is only human but his actions instantly ailienated him.
All that said I am definately a fan he has won people over with some incredible goalkeeping.
Sign him up Saints.

I think he has pulled off quite a few saves of importance. he is also good attaking the ball cleanly and his confidence has grown after the reception he got by some fans.
Yes agree there is still a lot to do to stay up 10 points should do it. We cannot aim for anything less. None of the clubs around us are going to lay down and give up. We have to be totally focused.
Nice to know plans are in place to imnprove even more.
