Former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins 'on verge of taking over at Reading'
FORMER Saints boss Nigel Adkins is on the verge of being named Reading manager.
Adkins was said to have 'cooled his interest' in the post, leading to the Berkshire club to approach - and be rejected by - Brighton manager Gus Poyet.
The former Wigan goalkeeper now looks to have had a change of heart, however.
If appointed, Adkins will be available to take charge ahead of Reading's trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.
As previously reported by the Daily Echo, Adkins was in dispute with Saints following his sacking by Nicola Cortese in January.
The former Scunthorpe boss was in fact placed on gardening leave and being paid monthly by Saints, and he was in the process of taking legal action against the club.
Taking up a new position could have jeopardised any further money from his Southampton contract, which still had two years left to run.
It is not known if that situation has yet been resolved.
Saints are due to visit the Madjeski Stadium next month.
