Volunteers are sought to aid refugees

4:30pm Wednesday 3rd April 2013

VOLUNTEERS are needed at a drop-in centre for refugees and asylum seekers in Swindon.

The Harbour Project currently deals mainly with people from Africa and the Middle East.

A typical three-hour session sees at least 30 people pass through the doors to meet friends, use the computers or to seek help from the centre co-ordinator and volunteers on a variety of issues.

These include immigration, benefits, employment, consumer problems and education.

The Harbour provides an informal setting and is funded by a small council grant and any other charity money which may be available.

It employs three part time workers and two volunteers are needed to help every day.

Volunteers are also needed to serve on the management committee and help with book keeping and accounts, and fundraising.

To volunteer contact Barbara Mitchell on 01793 740851, email barb188@hotmail.com or Harbour at swindon harbour1@aol.com.
