The recent World Pilot Gig championships at the Isles of Scilly saw Falmouth men’s and women’s A crews take both top honours, but almost unnoticed, the ladies ‘Supervets’ crew, for over-50’s, also brought home gold for the club.

The competition took place amongst the spectacular Friday night veterans (over-40s) race, with 57 crews taking part.

The Falmouth Supervets crew had a flying start, leading the entire fleet for nearly half the course to eventually finish as champions in the Supervets category and in a fantastic fourth place overall.

This was Falmouth’s first ever Ladies Supervet’s crew, comprising of [l-r, pic] Debbie Smith, Debbie Maxted, Di Hunter, Isolde Pullum, Janet Cave, Judith Preston and cox Alice Maxted [not in pic] who were delighted with the result.  Debbie Maxted said, “It’s really wonderful to still be so completely involved in competitive racing, even at our age.  You never lose that will to win and we hope to keep going for many years to come!”
