A 22-year-old from Melksham has appeared in court charged with causing death by careless driving, following an accident in February which killed father-of-four Michael Rustell.

Alexander Siu Kit Lee, of Park Road, Melksham, appeared before South East Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court today, where he was granted unconditional bail.

His solicitor, Andrew Eddy, indicated he would be pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity.

Mr Rustell, 50, was killed on Monday, February 4 when Lee’s Volkswagen Golf collided with his Rover 500 on the A36 near Norridge Woods, Warminster, just after 5pm.

An air ambulance was called, but Mr Rustell suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene. Lee suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bath RUH.

Mr Rustell, who lived in Rode with his wife Mary and two of his four children, was a popular sportsman who had played football for Frome Town, and had been the longest-serving player at Beckington Cricket Club.

He worked for a printers in Frome, and as a carer for the elderly. He had also been a retained firefighter for 12 years.

Lee will appear before Salisbury Crown Court on July 17.
