WYRE Forest residents are being asked for their views on how often they should vote for district councillors.

At the moment, Wyre Forest District Council holds elections for three successive years out of four with a third of its 42 councillors - 14 - elected each time. In the year when there is no district election, such as this year, there are polls for Worcestershire County Council.

Residents are now being asked whether they would like to keep the current system or move to whole council elections, which would see all seats on the council up for grabs at the same time, once every four years.

If that system were adopted, it would be introduced from May, 2015.

The council claims that would save money and enable it to adopt a more strategic, long-term approach but elections every three out of four years provide frequent opportunities for voters to influence the make up of the council.

More information about the benefits of each option can be found on the district council’s website - wyreforestdc.gov.uk/viewsonvoting - where residents can submit their views.

Copies of the consultation paper are also available from the Worcestershire Hubs at Kidderminster Town Hall, Riverside, Stourport and 6 Load Street, Bewdley. The deadline for residents to submit their views is 5pm on Friday, July 12.
