Watford now know four teams they won’t be facing on the opening day of the Championship season after details of six fixtures were released early that will mark the Football League’s 125th anniversary.
The fixtures for the 2013/14 campaign will be released at 9am tomorrow but it was confirmed this lunchtime that Burnley will host Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, August 3, while Derby County entertain Blackburn Rovers. All four clubs are among the league’s 12 founder members, while the Clarets’ Turf Moor home hosted games in the inaugural 1888/89 season.
The other opening day fixtures to be released early are Preston North End v Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United v Notts County in League One and the League Two games between Hartlepool United and Rochdale and Newport County v Accrington Stanley.
