Melksham and Trowbridge Post Offices will be closed from 2pm today and all day next Saturday as members of the Communication Workers’ Union stage another walk-out.

The strike today will be the sixth day of industrial action since plans were announced to sell off 300 Crown Post Offices across the country, including Melksham’s office on Church Street, and will be followed by another closure on Saturday, June 29.

Staff in both offices are protesting against a further pay freeze, with wages not increasing since April 2011.

CWU territorial representative Chris Roche said: “We’re hoping to organise a public meeting in Melksham in the coming weeks, as we want to ramp up the campaign against the franchising.

“Nationally, support for the strikes is improving, which is good when you’re talking about strikes six and seven, and in Wiltshire they continue to be well supported.”
