War memorial: The service of rededication for the war memorial took place on Sunday in the Memorial Park. About 120 people attended the service, which was conducted by ministers from all the local churches. Earby Band played as the parade entered the park and 25 wreaths were laid.

Park teas: Teas will be served in the park on Sunday, from 1pm to 4pm. There will also be children’s entertainment, stalls and music from Earby Band. All proceeds are for Cancer Research.

Methodist church: The preacher for Sunday’s 10.30am service at St Peter’s Methodist Church will be the Rev Keith Richardson, of Burnley. This will be an all-age worship service, which includes a Scouts parade. There will be a congregational meeting after the service to discuss the Circuit Review document and the future and growth of the Methodist Church in Earby.

Community centre: The Roaring 20s meeting scheduled for tomorrow in the New Road Community Centre has been postponed until 2pm next Friday, July 5. The next Community Association meeting will be at 7pm on Monday, July 29.

Churches Together: Nominations are invited for the 2013 Rev Malcolm King Award. The shield is presented by Churches Together to an individual who has given outstanding service to the community (not exclusively to churches). Nominations from organisations or individuals can be made to the chairman, David James Hartley, at Riverside, 3 Greenbank, Schoolfields, Earby, telephone 01282 842617 or email davidjhartley@hotmail.com. Voting will take place at the next meeting of Churches Together at 6.30pm on August 29. There will be a meal and a speaker will give a talk about youth work in Earby. Churches Together is also looking into the possibility of establishing a food bank in West Craven and a meeting has been arranged for Monday, July 15, at 7pm in the New Road Community Centre.
