Cardiff have completed the signing of ex-Saints academy goalkeeper Simon Moore from Brentford on a four-year deal.

City manager Malky Mackay had previously confirmed a deal had been agreed with the Bees, with the 23-year-old becoming a Bluebird yesterday after the necessary paperwork was completed.

Moore, from the Isle of Wight, is set to be quickly reunited with his former team-mates as Cardiff travel to face Brentford in a pre-season friendly tonight.

Moore started his career in the Saints academy and had a spell with Farnborough Town before joining Brentford in 2009. He kept 13 clean sheets in 52 appearances last term.

Mackay said: "We have been watching Simon for a year or so - he is a real up-and-coming goalkeeper. "My thanks go to Brentford for the way they went about their business and we are delighted to get Simon in for the start of our season.

"He is one for the future and we have three quality senior goalkeepers in our squad."

Moore becomes Cardiff's third summer acquisition as the club prepare for their maiden Premier League season, striker Andreas Cornelius and defender John Brayford having already arrived at Cardiff City Stadium.

The Welsh club have also had an offer of around £9.5million accepted for Toulouse's French international midfielder Etienne Capoue, and are hoping to convince the 25-year-old his future lies in south Wales, despite reports he is keen on a move to Spain.

Happy for this lad, he was well known on the Island and well liked. Seems like he might have slipped through the net. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us on the bum.

The shirt issue is an interesting test of the new site scoring system. I suspect it's a Marmite issue - one that would provoke a very large number of like and dislike ratings and yet score a net 0 that might, superficially, indicate a lot of indifference.

I think I might try and avoid the 'examination' by stopping posting all the time about serious and straight forward football matters and instead go off thread a lot.

Good point - I forgot about Palace. They're a one-man team who have sold their one man. They're down.

I still think Stoke will go down. Mark Hughes is a TERRIBLE manager in charge of a team that needs rebuilding.

It’s always a nice story when a player gets knocked back early in their career and then goes on to make it later, good luck to him.
We knocked back Dennis Wise when he was an apprentice, we signed Andy Townsend from Weymouth, Ian Wright was in his twenties before he got picked up from Dulwich. They didn’t too bad despite early disappointment.

Self belief and determination can take you a long way and I reckon they probably enjoyed their careers all the more because of it.

Seem to remember a rarely employed clause being present that if Bale made the Welsh international diving team we were up for 50%. He has to be a contender on artistic content alone.

Baby Drogba would be an interesting signing, looks the part to bully defenders. I hear Kinnear is being called the Director of Feckall by the Geordies.
I think our chances in snaffling Damaio may be on the up. Spurs seem to be close to locking in Soldado instead and Fulham are in for Osvaldo. This could leave Internacional in a weaker bargaining position against NC ..... Still a lot of wonga though.

I know he was top scorer at the Olympics, but there are several other examples of players who set a tournament alight and then don't do a great deal. Sometimes players seem to grow a reputation by being watched, or reportedly watched, by big clubs. Not saying he won't be quality and I'd be excited if we got him, but other players with better goalscoring records seem to be going for much less money. Bony looks like another inspired Swansea signing for instance - his goalscoring record is phenomenal.

He'd be my choice of the ones we've been linked to - looks quality and doesn't lack self belief. He seems to be a bit of a Berbatov character, but it's been a long time since we've had a player with that sort of swagger and if we want to aim really high maybe we need someone who's going to have the confidence to grab his team mates by the collar and expect the highest standards. That said, there's a lot to be said for a happy dressing room as well so as ever it would be a gamble. As you said, who'd be a manager!

Shame we didn't move on Lukaku before Jose came back and discovered a ready-made Drogba replacement. Still, while I love speculating, frankly, if NC is willing to spend money on young talent from all around the world he can buy who he likes on the basis of his previous progressive policy.

But while I know we all want to see exciting new signings, if he does buy a truly top class, first choice striker or winger I'd be sad to see one of the others left out - we already have Rickie, J-Rod (potentially converting to Rickie cover if needed centrally), Gaston, Punch and Adam fighting for three places and at some point I think Mayuka deserves a fair run in the team, not to mention Isgrove coming through.

One thing's for sure, the squad looks really, really strong already in most departments.

Yeah I agree. I'm currently on a minus 13 for my entirely sensible comment earlier and I didn't even mention the new shirt. Oops . Forget I mentioned that. On a positive note though Confucious currently has a minus 14 and he's the best poster on here. It's just great knowing I'm right up there with the best.

He'd be my choice of the ones we've been linked to - looks quality and doesn't lack self belief. He seems to be a bit of a Berbatov character, but it's been a long time since we've had a player with that sort of swagger and if we want to aim really high maybe we need someone who's going to have the confidence to grab his team mates by the collar and expect the highest standards. That said, there's a lot to be said for a happy dressing room as well so as ever it would be a gamble. As you said, who'd be a manager!

I think Bent is a good player who is a proven goal scorer (except for last season ) but I think he is a player who needs everything to go his way and when the chips are down and you need your forwards to defend from the front and chase everything I'm not sure Bent is to keen for that.

Given that the Skates start with minus 10 (obviously) we all need to try that little bit harder to make sure we can outscore them. Currently only Confucius, Saintsayer and myself are shaping up.

Could do well for someone, but not for us IMO. I see Villa as being managed in a very similar way to us at the moment, but with more direct, physical edge compared to our silky stuff. Like us, they seem to be keen to move away from signing or playing 'big names' on big wages who are arguably past their peak. I've got a lot of respect for that and both Villa and Saints have been refreshing from that perspective

Seeing as Bent couldn't get close to the Villa first team in a year where they weren't exactly prolific and nearly got relegated I can't see why we'd be interested. I imagine Lambert felt he wasn't mobile enough and didn't show a team ethic in training.

Not for us in my opinion. I think he's more of a West Ham signing, where he'd probably do well alongside other effective players I wouldn't want us to sign either, such as Nolan.
