Hampshire’s two England junior internationals, Harry Ellis and Jack Singh-Brar, safely made it through to the match play stages of the British Boys Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool.
Ellis, from the Meon Valley, who was crowned England’s youngest-ever men’s amateur champion in August last year, qualified in 25th spot after carding a round of 73 at Hoylake, which is the venue for next year’s Open Championship.
That followed a three-over-par 75 from the 17-year-old in the first round at nearby Wallasey Golf Club. He faces Forest Hills player Jamie Dick in the first match play round today.
Singh-Brar, who fired a superb 66 on his European Tour debut in the Russian Open last month, opened up with a 73 at Wallasey. A 77 followed on day two, which was enough to give him a share of 40th place. Singh-Brar faces Delamare’s Forest’s Haydn McCullen in the last 64 today.
