Saints are not actively pursuing any more signings before the transfer window closes, but Mauricio Pochettino insists they will continue to monitor the market.

The club have already committed to an outlay approaching £35m this summer with the capture of Dejan Lovren, Victor Wanyama and, most recently, Dani Osvaldo.

The spending seems likely to stop there, but Saints remain open to striking another deal should an exciting opportunity present itself.

“We’re pretty pleased with the players that we’ve brought in,” said Pochettino.

“We’re not really looking that much, but we’re also keeping an eye on the market to see if anything arises, because different things could actually happen and we need to be able to react fast.”

While work on adding to the squad now calms down, there are still a number of players who Saints are attempting to move on, notably the likes of Billy Sharp, Dean Hammond and Tadanari Lee.

“I was very clear at the beginning of pre-season I do not consider them part of the future of my plans for the club, so we’re trying to find solutions for them,” said Pochettino.

“They themselves are trying to look ahead for their futures, and the club is trying to find them an exit.”

Saints are currently putting the finishing touches to preparations for their opening home match of the Premier League season, against Sunderland tomorrow.

The exuberant Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio will be in the visitors’ technical area, but Pochettino insists that there will not be any fireworks between the two managers.

“It will be a difficult game, no doubt,” he said. “We have a good relationship with Paolo. There won’t be any problems between us.

“We are very aware it’s going to be a tough game. They lost their first game of the season (1-0 at home to Fulham), so they are going to be looking to bounce back. We are very much aware that we’re going to have to work hard to get the victory.”

New signing Osvaldo is in line for his debut, while Calum Chambers will continue at right-back if Nathaniel Clyne is not ready to play. Maya Yoshida comes back into contention after missing last week’s win at West Brom following international duty.
