Treat in store for Hampshire darts fans
Hampshire arrows fans are in for a treat in November when a group of talented professionals toe the oche for the town’s biggest darts event.
PDC stars, including 2013 Premier League winner Michael van Gerwen, will be appearing at an exclusive event at Andover Leisure Centre.
The world number two will be joined by Hampshire’s own seven-times major winner James Wade and former BDO world champion Ted Hankey.
Joining them on Thursday, November 7 will be British-born Aussie star Paul Nicholson.
But the biggest cheers of the night are likely to come for another couple of players – Andover father and son duo Colin and Arron Monk.
Colin grew up in Andover and has a string of world championship appearances and European titles to his name – along with the 1996 Winmau World Masters crown.
However Arron is making all the headlines these days, having already won the World Under-21 PDC title.
Arron said: “I’m really looking forward to playing in this event.
“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to play some of the top players in the world in my home town.
“To be sharing the stage with my dad will be great as he is a bit of a local legend. It should be a fantastic night.”
Wade is currently serving a four-match ban handed out by the Darts Regulation Authority after ‘bringing the game into disrepute’ over something he said at a recent PDC Tour event.
But the left-hander still holds a place in the organisation’s top five and is considered one of the most exciting players on the circuit.
Some locals will get the chance to take on the pros during the evening – details will be revealed later – and ex-world champion Andy Fordham is also due to attend.
Tickets start at £15 and are available from dartshop.tv, on 08450 180180 or at ticketmaster.co.uk.
