As a renowned impressionist, Mike Osman is no stranger to performing in many different roles.

And on the day I met the Millbrook born entertainer in the reception at St Mary's Stadium, Osman was akin to a child in a sweet shop.

With an all-access pass proudly draped around his neck granting him the freedom of the stadium, he bounced around with the enthusiasm displayed by someone in a place they love, doing what they love.

And so it was.

Because, as we journeyed around the myriad backroom areas in the stadium where Osman's beloved Southampton FC play he was able to do one of the things he does best - meeting and speaking to people from all walks of life.

Not one person - be it receptionist, cleaner, security, ground or club shop staff - walked past without receiving Osman's customary, warm welcome in his genuine "happy to see you again" tone.

And it is that natural affinity for people that no doubt helped him become an instantly recognisable radio voice during the late 1990s.

"I felt radio came naturally to me," he said. "It was the one thing I didn't have to try too hard at. When that red light went on and I was on air I felt so comfortable in that environment."

In the new year, after a four-year break from the airwaves Osman will be returning to the medium he adores in a new music and chat show with his industry and fishing companion Chris Tarrant.
