Stubbington among the medals in Test Way relay
6:11pm Sunday 15th September 2013 in Sport
STUBBINGTON Green Runners managed to get a team in the medals in all three categories of this year’s Test Way Relay.
The event, which has been run annually since 1985, sees teams of eight racing over an unmarshalled 44-mile course from the supposed source of the River Test at Inkpen Beacon to Totton.
And the Stubbington club took the honours for the quickest finish of the day, with the club’s men’s team coming home in 4hrs 32mins 9secs.
That was enough to bag the men’s category, with Overton Harriers taking second in 4.37.23 and Winchester AC coming home third in 4.41.13.
Stubbington (5.35.30) were edged out into second place in the women’s race, which saw Winchester take the top spot with 5.24.19 and Overton in third with 5.46.04.
And Stubbington also picked up a silver medal in the mixed race, which saw teams made up of four men and four women.
However, their time of 5.30.36 was some way behind mixed race winners and hosts Totton Running Club, who blitzed home in 5.00.15 and only missed out on beating their own course record by 14 seconds.
Romsey Road Runners took third place in the mixed race with 5.40.59
