Lee Barnard netted the only goal of the game, as Saints won at Leicester in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League.
Forgotten man Barnard was one of three senior players to feature in the game, joining keeper Paulo Gazzaniga and fellow striker Tadanari Lee in the starting line-up.
While Japan international Lee has just been welcomed back into the first-team fold, Barnard remains frozen out.
However, it was the former Southend player who made the telling impact yesterday, heading in a Jake Sinclair cross shortly after half-time.
The result ended a run of three consecutive league defeats for Saints’ under-21 team.
Saints: Gazzaniga, McCarthy, Stephens, Turnbull, Targett, Reed, Flannigan, Isgrove (Sinclair), Lee (Moore), Rowe, Barnard.
