Royals want Sharp deal
Reading are hoping to complete a loan deal for Saints striker Billy Sharp.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at St Mary’s, but could link up with his former boss, Nigel Adkins, at the Madejski Stadium.
Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that the club has been trying to help Sharp find an exit, with the player not being in his first-team plans.
Sharp, pictured, was unable to secure a move before the transfer window shut. But last night he was reported to be on the verge of joining the Royals, who have also drafted in former Saint Chris Baird on a free transfer.
It was Adkins who signed Sharp for Saints as the club paid out £1.8m to bring him in from Doncaster in January 2012.
Sharp repaid that faith by scoring nine goals in 15 games to help Saints to promotion from the Championship.
However, elevation to the Premier League has meant chances have been far harder to come by.
Sharp has featured just twice for Saints in the top flight and spent much of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.
