Victory at Anfield was all that mattered - Lovren
Dejan Lovren’s first goal in English football was one to treasure – but the defender insisted it was not as important to him as the three points at Anfield.
The Croatian international capped another wonderful display at the back with the decisive goal against Liverpool, heading in Adam Lallana’s 53rd minute corner.
“It’s a big moment if you score a goal, especially here at Anfield, but that’s not as important as the three points that we take home,” said Lovren.
The centre half, who also took great pride in a third clean sheet of the season for Saints, added: “I think the whole team made that. It was amazing.
“I think we did a great job and it was important to get a clean sheet too. I think with that clean sheet we have a lot of confidence in our team, and of course, we are happy about that.”
Lovren was the first of Saints’ three summer signings this year, and the £8.5m paid to Lyon for his services is already looking like a shrewd investment.
But, while the defender is pleased with his early performances, he says there is more to come from him yet.
“I think I do some things well, but I can do a lot better, so I try to do that each time,” he said.
