Ainslie's America's Cup crew triumph
9:44pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Sport
Four time Olympic gold medallist Ainslie masterminded an incredible comeback for his Team USA crew to claim victory over rivals Team New Zealand after 15 days of intense action.
In a thrilling winner-takes-all race Ainslie, as Team USA's tactician, guided their state-of-the-art 72ft catamaran around the San Francisco Bay course and over the finish line 44 seconds ahead of their competitors.
The win was the final stage of an incredible comeback which saw Team USA fight back from 7-1 down in the first to nine race tournament to win 9-8.
Ainslie, 36, from Lymington, is one of just a handful of Brits ever to lift the America's Cup in its 162-year history.
A British team has never won.
It is the 30th time an American team has been victorious – and means Team USA retain the trophy they won in 2010 at the 33rd America's Cup.
