THREE former Hampshire players starred at international level today.
George Bailey and Glenn Maxwell both fell narrowly short of a century during Australia’s abandoned fourth ODI against India in Ranchi.
And spinner Imran Tahir bagged Test best figures as South Africa took control of the second Test against Pakistan.
Bailey continued his remarkable ODI record by hitting 98 off 95 balls as Australia posted 298-5.
He put on 153 for the fifth wicket with Maxwell, who clubbed five sixes in an ODI best of 92 made off just 77 deliveries.
It was Bailey’s fifth score of 85 or more in his last seven ODIs, and he is currently averaging more than 50 in his ODI career.
Their efforts were all in vain, though, as the game was washed out with India 27-0 in reply.
Tahir made an instant impact on his return to the Test scene after almost a year on the sidelines.
He bagged a Test best 5-32 as South Africa routed Pakistan for 99 on the first day of the second Test in Dubai Tahir was recalled by the Proteas after their first Test defeat, for what was his 12th Test but his first since last November.
Tahir had taken just 26 wickets in his first 11 Tests at an average of more than 50.
