More injury woes for Saints

Daily Echo: Nathaniel Clyne Nathaniel Clyne

Saints have two fresh injury worries to add to their mounting casualty list.

Victor Wanyama and Nathaniel Clyne were both forced off during the 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa, while Jose Fonte was only fit to be used from the bench after also picking up a knock.

The treatment room also boasts the likes of Artur Boruc, Kelvin Davis, Morgan Schneiderlin, Gaston Ramirez, Guly do Prado and Danny Fox at the moment.

Mauricio Pochettino will be desperately hoping he gets some good news from his medical staff ahead of the game against Manchester City on Saturday.

“We need to review how they are doing and we will see if they are fit for Saturday,” he said of the Wanyama and Clyne injuries.

Speaking of playing Maya Yoshida and leaving Jose Fonte on the bench he confirmed: “I have to make decision.

“Fonte was having a problem, he had a knock and wasn’t fit to play the full 90 minutes so we decided to put in a fresh player in Yoshida.

“I don’t think it was the mistake of just one player.

“We weren’t solid as a team, as a collective, and that’s why the result happened.

“Also we were unlucky in the manner in which they arrived four times but they scored three times.”

Pochettino was asked after the game whether Saints would invest in January to add depth to their squad and replied: “We need to be relaxed. The most important thing in football is to be relaxed.

“We need to analyse deeply the situation and we will assess it in January which is actually when we can make the decision. Right now we can’t make any decisions on that.”

If our second goal was a sign of things to come, bring it on, will three up front be the answer now that our previous methods have been found out and countered?
