Poch intervenes as tempers flare

Daily Echo: Pochettino pushes Osvaldo down the tunnel at full time Pochettino pushes Osvaldo down the tunnel at full time

Mauricio Pochettino intervened in a post match melee involving Dani Osvaldo to calm down his record signing.

Tempers were flaring towards the end of the 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa with a few hefty challenges flying in and yellow cards produced.

After the final whistle there were a few confrontations, including one involving Osvlado.

Pochettino was close to the situation and stepped in to pull the record signing away and usher him down the tunnel.

“It’s only normal in football these things can happen,” said Pochettino.

“We were very angry, the nerves get the best of you so it’s normal that there’s going to be temper tantrums at the end.”

There were suggestions that Osvaldo may have raised an arm to a Villa player and went head to head with him but Pochettino said: “Sincerely I did not see that.

“I saw there was a bit of a melee happening and I went for my player to take him out of that situation and calm him down.”

The only reason the melee kicked off in the first place was that the referee should have sent off the Aston Villa player for a late tackle on Luke Shaw.If he had done that then the game would have carried on

I agree entirely, the Ref was carp. He was always picky about the precise place a free kick had to be taken. This is a big wind up.
He needed to stop the time wasting that Villa employed even at the start of the game.
As for the late "tackle" on Luke I am thank full he jumped at the right time he could have had his leg broken, if this is not a red card then I will never see one.
Ossie has to control his passion and energies for playing, not confrontation, that said, he took his goal well., as did Jay.

Off topic - The 3rd round draw of the FA Cup will be on Sunday at around 4:10pm on ITV 1, Southampton are ball number 35, wouldn't it be great to get the skates, sadly it won't happen this year, or I suspect anywhen else in the near future, things are not all bad.

Dani boy is certainly an enigma.Against Chelsea at the final whistle he ran straight down the tunnel without shaking any opponents hands,Against Villa his manager MP had to pull him down the tunnel.to stop him getting at the Villa players.
Lots of Latin passion and i am sure that the latin football flair is there as well.unfortunately the Saints fans haven't seen much of it yet.
QUESTION OF THE DAY-What will OSVALDO get first--A HAT-TRICK or A RED CARD.
My heart says a hat-trick,preferably at the weekend v CITY. My head though says a red card..

In the FA Cup Oxford United have just beaten Gateshead with a penalty in the 115th minute, Gateshead had 73% of the play, 24 attempts, 4 on target, Oxford 10 attempts 3 on target. Funny old game.
