FAWLEY AFC’s winless Sydenhams Premier Division run stretched to 16 games tonight, thumped 5-0 at home by Newport IoW.

The Islanders, who welcomed GC Giancovich back into the fold from East Cowes Vics, went two up through Freddie Knowles’ 18-yard strike and a Darren Powell header.

Mark Corbett smashed home Charlie Smeeton’s cross to make it 3-0 before going on to complete a hat- trick.

Newport, who had Smeeton sent off in stoppage time, have shot back up to second spot.

Fawley – away to Hamworthy on Saturday – remain deep in trouble second to bottom.
