Morgan Schneiderlin is touch and go to return to the Saints squad to face Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The French midfielder has been sidelined with a pelvic injury but has returned to light training.

Schneiderlin is the only one of Mauricio Pochettino’s long injury list in contention to come back for the game, though the Saints boss said the 24–year-old is not fit enough to play a full 90 minutes.

“The only option that we are analysing still that may be on the list for Saturday's game is Morgan Schneiderlin,” reported Pochettino.

“If he weren't to be on the list, he wouldn't be physically fit to play the full 90 minutes.

“Tomorrow we will make the final evaluation to see if he is able to play a few minutes on Saturday or if it is better that he stays here and keeps on training.”
