AFC TOTTON have called a members’ meeting for the first week of the new year.

But chairman Andy Straker says the Monday, January 6 (7.30pm) gathering has absolutely nothing to do with rumours currently rife in non-League circles that Blackfield & Langley backer Sam Davies is on his way to the Testwood Stadium.

Straker took over the Totton chairmanship during the summer, initially on a stand-in basis, to try and help the cash-strapped club out of financial turmoil.

The Stags are steadily chipping away at their mountain of debt and, Straker says, January’s meeting has been called to “discuss the future of the club and decide which option is the best way to move AFC Totton forward.”

He added: “This is a very important meeting and all members are urged to attend.”

Straker cannot reveal what’s on the agenda but stressed that Davies, who is on his way out as Blackfield’s director of football, is definitely NOT involved.

Straker is fully aware of the gossip linking Davies with the Calor Southern Division club, but said: “I do not know Sam Davies and have never spoken to him. I wouldn’t know him if I was sat next to him right now!

“I’m well aware of the rumours saying he’s trying to get in here and, of course, if he ever contacts me, I would speak to him. If you’re a good businessman, you’d come to me first.

“But we’re working on taking the club forward and that’s what the meeting’s about on January 6.

“We’ll be putting options forward to the members and choosing the best one for the club.

“If Sam Davies does need to speak to me, he’d better do it quickly if he’s interested.”
