Poch vows to avoid brawl repeat

Daily Echo: Poch vows to avoid brawl repeat Poch vows to avoid brawl repeat

Maurico Pochettino said he never again wants to see his bench involved in a brawl like the one that broke out at the end of the 1-1 draw with Newcastle at St James’ Park.

An injury time challenge by Morgan Schneiderlin that saw the midfielder pick up a yellow card led to staff from both benches getting involved in a melee that was broken up by stewards.

The respective goalkeeping coaches, Toni Jimenez of Saints and Andy Woodman of Newcastle, were sent to the stands for the remainder of the game.

Alan Pardew described the bust up as “panto season” and Pochettino said: “I think what happened at the end of the game is not a good example. It’s not good for football.

“From our point of view we are going to try our best not to let it happen again because it’s not good for anyone, not good for the sport.

“I think it is avoidable but also in a high intensity game such as that any little spark can lead to something else and I think that’s what happened.

“Overall from our point of view it’s something we regret and we don’t want ever to happen again.”

The incident somewhat overshadowed a decent game and a good result for Saints who fought back from a goal down to level through Jay Rodriguez.

“I think overall in the analysis of the 96 or 97 minutes played the draw was a fair result,” said Pochettino.

“Perhaps we could have even got something a bit more from this game.

“I think both halves were completely different.

“In the first half it was wide open and both teams were creating good chances for themselves.

“I think in the second half Southampton was completely dominating the game and could have gone on to win.

“The overall analysis is the draw is a fair result.”

Considering the injuries we have at the moment, I would say this is a good result against an in form Newcastle team COYR.

Mauricio is right, it's Football not Boxing,Wrestling or a Political debate , Football is very physical game and in every game the timing of a tackle can be crucial, sometimes a tackle is not executed perfect not because the Player who commits is intent on causing injury to the opposing Player but he doesn't get it right, that's not an excuse for Coaches to get into a fracas and definitely not make physical contact, when the 2 teams have given everything and it's been a fantastic game nobody wants the spotlight taken from a thoroughly entertaining game with 2 minutes of stupidity from 2 people who were not on the pitch and involved in the game, let it be the one and only blemish on the Saints this season

Pardew got his payers and everyone else really wound up for the game. Part of me thought he hasn't got over being sacked but it really came down to the fact that he knew his team were in for a really tough afternoon. What a difference Al and Spider made. I can understand why we did not start with Morgan and someone had to step aside to play Osvaldo and Sir RL, but if that means its AL who steps aside forget the Osvaldo Sir RL partnership. Oh and get Fonte back in right away (was he injured ill or what?). Got tickets for Sunday... back on the winning trail.

Seen the spider tackle nearly a dozen times and can't see anything wrong with it, apart from their player rolling and acting injured.
Lot of talk about tactics and team selection however you have to say mopo got it right, a point away to an in form team isn't bad and I would have taken that before the game. Special mention to Steve Davis and corky who both worked unselfishly as always.

Great result for Saints against the Geordies, the spirit in our squad is impressive. St James’s is not an easy place to come away with anything from, our history tells us that. It was a bit of a pantomime in some regards with the ref tumble and the touchline fracas, I’ve always been a fan of handbags and gladrags (Rod or the Phonics).
We were good for our point, we have proved on numerous occasions that we will not roll over and die, unlike some I could mention.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen get out in the midday WACA sun.
The Ashes have been conceded here in scorching Perth, POMS have shown as much fight as the skunts in the 4th Division. Jolly good p1ss up though, it's been Barmy!

Bring on the Spuds.
