Danilo Cadete’s strike minutes from time gave visiting Romsey Town the shock result of the Sydenhams Premier season as they beat Winchester City 3-2 at the Denplan Ground.

It was no more than Carl Bennett’s basement side deserved as they went for City from the start and by the time Dominic Collicott drove the opener past City keeper Ross Casey on ten minutes Cadete had already had a penalty saved.

City then appeared to settle and just short of the break Chris Flood was put through and calmly levelled with an efficient finish which should have been the catalyst for a comfortable win.

Flood then hit the post with another effort as Romsey wobbled but they were gifted a second as the home defence went to pieces and Collicott was left to walk the ball in to give his side the lead at the break.

Romsey were forced on the defensive for much of the second half as Flood had several chances which went astray but it seemed as though City boss Neil Hards had pulled one out of the hat when he sent on Lerone Plummer on the hour and the substitute netted in style from Chris Mason’s inch perfect pass with only his second touch.

Romsey continued to defend well and break when they could and after Cadete had found room to try to lob Casey, Flood once again blazed wide from eight yards and Romsey took full advantage of their luck within seconds.

Cadete rescued a ball wide on the left and drilled a shot inside Casey’s near post with minutes left on the clock.

Romsey remain bottom, three points adrift of Fawley and within sight of Downton who are in freefall but Winchester will rue the chance to go top, even with Sholing now having five games in hand.
