Gaston Ramirez has been taken to hospital after being injured at Sunderland.

He and Dejan Lovren were both stretchered off after picking up injuries within seconds of each other at either end of the pitch.

Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino initally said both players had been taken to hospital but the latest update from the club has revealed that Lovren didn't go to hospital and left the Stadium of Light wearing a protective boot. Ramirez is in hospital for X-rays on his ankle.

The team were due to fly back to Southampton from Newcastle airport immediately after the game but will now wait in the north east in the hope the stricken midfielder can come back with them.

Horrific images have surfaced of Ramirez's ankle at a terrible angle after Wes Brown's challenge went through the ball and into his left leg.

Play continued up to the other end where Lovren was injured in a challenge with Steven Fletcher.

Daily Echo: Dejan Lovren being stretchered off the pitch.

Pochettino said: "They are being assessed at the moment so we don’t need exactly what happened.

"We hope that it’s not as bad as we saw from the images on the pitch."

He added: "You could see they were in a lot of pain.

"I saw them before going to hospital and they were in a lot of pain."

So another decision, against us, leads to the unfortunate injury to Lovren.

Had the ref given us the free kick at the other end, the Lovren incident would not have happened.

Watching the reply of Gaston's ankle breaking under him, horror injury. Suspect he will be out for the rest of the season with this one. If you get to see it, you might want to turn your head.

Dejan's didn't look that bad on the replay, but clearly it is.

Absolutely disgusting nothing was given for the challenge on Ramirez. Tackles from behind are, if I'm not mistaken, against the rules of the game regardless of whether the ball was played or not. Not even a free kick was given, let alone a yellow or red card. Very poor from the match officials there. Since they missed it presumably the FA can do something about it and give Wes Brown a caution.

Hope they are both okay. We've had a terrible run of injuries of late and looked to be getting back to full health, then this. Lovren has been essential and Ramirez has been coming on strong these last few games. Both will be missed.

Yeah. Wes Brown's tackle is just the type of incident where a retrospective ban should apply. He did play the ball first but went straight through on his ankle. A coward's tackle which once again has gone unpunished.

The fa excuse will be that the referee saw the incident so no further action. I've had this conversation with them before. Try explaining to them that he clearly didn't see it properly otherwise he would have taken the correct action. Funnily enough they don't respond to that one.

The furstrating thing was that the injury to Gastón came at the time he was just beginning to show what he can do for the team. There was a long period when plenty of us were beginning to lose faith in him (so much promise, so little achievement) and it looked to me like he was rapidly turning the corner. His contribution up until the injury today had been pretty excellent and he was probably going to loose off a shot created by a great run when he was hit.

We'll have to wait to see the result but I hope it heals quickly (some hope, looking at it) and that he can get back into training and playing well for us.

Terrific game, it looked like Saints were going to get a Cricket score especially the first 30 minutes, I'm no expert but Adam Johnson should not of been given any room to play his game throughout the match, he's a class Player who is on form and should of been marked with at least 2 if not 3 Players every second he had the Ball, the Law of tackling from behind was introduced in the 90s when I was Refereeing and Chris Foy could get a rollicking from his Superiors for allowing that incident to go unpunished, it was an automatic sending off.

It was a nuisance that it put Gaston out of the game because he looked like he was hungry and was starting to flow, I as an ex Ref watch the Keepers on fly kicks and several times the Sunderland Keeper appeared to deliver outside the penalty box, when I was on the Line my instructions were to watch the Keeper on those kicks and then of course get on the last defender, I am sure it was delivered at least 3 times 1 yard outside, I don't know if the Assistant Ref bottles it to raise his flag or it's the angle of the Cameras, anyone else spot it?

It was 1 point and that's better than none, the Players weren't suffering from sore eyes because of the departure of Nicola they get on with it, did anyone spot Katharina in the crowd? COYR

Brown should retrospectively be banned for such an horrendous tackle how a professional referee can let a tackle like that go unpunished is unbelievable what a disgrace.

A horror tackle and Iooking at the images I would guess a fractured/broken ankle, I really ,really hope its not that bad for Gaston's sake but the images don't paint a very promising picture. To get away with that with not even a foul given is shocking beyond belief, a terrible, terrible decision that I hope the ref looks back at and publicly states that he got that so very wrong, that should have been a straight red simple...!
Now that we have the pictures I hope that this is taken further, Wes Brown should be punished, its absolutely unexceptable, there was no excuse, I watched the game and apart from it being from behind, he (Wes Brown) made no attempt to get the ball the attempt was to take out Gaston with studs up...I hope he can live with the fact that may of ended this man's footballing career.

I would have expected Artur to have saved that normally but there was something wrong there today, I don't think it was a physical injury, he may have been unwell, as they prepared KD to replace him, before the walls came tumbling down on Rambo and Dejan.

Re-occurring theme again today. Our failure to take chances.

We have to get someone who can score goals. It's no point in working so hard creating chances if we fail to take them. It cost us the three points today.

I think the early kick off must have caught them out, they didn't turn up at all in the first half an hour. It is always bad to let their crowd have a crumb of comfort and once we slackly let them have the first goal it was always going to be an uphill struggle from then on, many very good teams have folded under the pressure and gone home with nothing..

Yes indeed 17 chances, 8 on target should produce a better en result, but I have no doubt that Poch is aware of it and will be working hard to remedy the shortcomings.

We scored 2. That should be enough. All teams miss many chances over the course of a game. Do you really think we are going to score 3or more every game. This is the Premier League after all.

After an eventful week - it was good to take the game to Sunderland and come away with a result.

Looking forward to our FA Cup Game vs Yeovil - hopefully we will have a decent crowd to see us advance to the next round. IT PROMISES TO BE A GREAT DAY OUT starting at the regular Saints Pubs. Rickie will be motivated for this one and we could get a hatful.

WE ARE A GOOD SIDE - the way we take the FIGHT to our Away Games is a credit - as is our AWAY SUPPORT - so it is no wonder that Fulham is sold out and lots of Saints Fans have got Tickets in the neutral Stand.

Got some good AWAY DAYS to look forward to with Wet Spam and Palace on the horizon.

Keeping our Players injury free is a priority. Having WANYAMA back will also make a difference.

OUR PLAYERS AND MANAGER HAVE BEEN A CREDIT THIS SEASON.

Boruc and Luke are not perfect - but are so much better than Kelvin and Fox. We do not have an unlimited budget - and we can all see where we can improve. Expect Osvaldo to get stuck in and net more goals for the remaining games in the Season. Fighting and getting banned is not required. HAVING FIGHT TO SECURE THE WINS IS THE PRIORITY.

9th IN THE PREMIERSHIP - WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON.

UTS - TOP TEAM IN THE SOUTH.

Hopefully precautionary, at least they weren't on stretchers, I think we will be without them for a couple of games at least, I doubt either would have featured in the Yeovil game, so this cup game will come as a blessed relief, Yeovil beat Birmingham today 2 0 away, so may be coming into a bit of form, not to be taken lightly, but a victory would do a mountain of good morale wise. I hope Big Sam G gets a run out, I would like to know what he is capable of doing.

This is an area where we have strength in depth and competition for places.

Chambers has grown in stature and is interchangeable with Clyne.

Lots of fans have highlighted we would like to strengthen the CB and where funds permit the GK position.

Priority for the Fans is to increase our STRIKE.

Do you remember Adam last season and how he was not performing that well and he stormed off without signing Autographs at the end of last season. LOOK AT HIM NOW.

RICKIE has contributed goals and assists this Season and I bet he will score more before the end of the Season.

WE WANT PLAYERS THAT SCORE GOALS.

Expensive imports are not guaranteed to deliver - only exceptional ones that cost a great deal of money.

With a limited budget - I am impressed that some sides seem to get proven players in at lower outlay and they do add to the goal tally. That said FAT SAM has made a right old mess of it and we would all like to get the AWAY WIN against them coming up soon.

A WIN AGAINST YEOVIL IN THE CUP AND A RESILIENT PERFORMANCE AND A RESULT AGAINST ARSENAL IS THE WAY AHEAD.

I saw Arsenal play recently on TV and with a Team in their faces they started to stutter and be on the back foot.

WE GO FOR THE WIN.

WE ARE THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON. COYR

I looked at the interview and see nothing other than a guy who is at the end of his mental tether, he isn't bubbling because he is whacked. No doubt downhearted because we deserved to win. He is probably up to his ears with repeated questioning about whether he is staying or not, it's more down to Press bullying than a desire to decide whether to stay or go. As he says it's not up to himself when he would meet Ms Liebherr, that is purely for her to organise. Sorry I think you are out of order regarding a manager, it is quite feasible that any new owner would seek someone different and that isn't going give Poch any peace of mind. Before being judgemental I suggest you take a step back and make an appraisal when there is something definite to work on.

A highlight is Right Back. Clyne was so good we were saying England call up then Chambers gets a chance and does so well Clyne can't get back in. Then Chambers out and Clyne gets a shout but doesn't do well enough to keep the place.

We don't have that at Left Back so Shaw in reality only replaced if injured or suspended. We don't have it at Centre Back either. We have lots of competition for Mid Field and none up front.

That was exactly what I thought. He finally starts coming good and then this.

Anyway, anyone seen the story in the Mirror yet? Thoughts etc?

His contribution up until the injury today had been pretty excellent and he was probably going to loose off a shot created by a great run when he was hit. We'll have to wait to see the result but I hope it heals quickly (some hope, looking at it) and that he can get back into training and playing well for us.
That was exactly what I thought. He finally starts coming good and then this.

Yes Bill , he scored the 1st goal and as god as it looked , he had all the time in the world . Bill today (this is taking fecking ages , what's going on ?? ) the boy had the chances, but not the control, to have taken the match ball home. We need a striker that can take the chances we create. David Crook thinks it's rubbish....which suggests to me that there may be some truth in the story.
Well the Dalian Wanda group bought Sunseeker, NC negotiated the deal with Sunseeker for sponsorship, so there is decimate my a link, and it does stand to reason that NC would have to leave in order to lead any take over and therefor remain in control(which I don't think anyone would disagree , is something he likes).

I think , it might, just might have a smidgen of truth to it.

On a footballing front, we should have been out of site, at least 3 in the first half, JRod should have had a hattrick .. We lost a little concentration straight after the second goal and that gave te crowd life and woke them up .

AB was at fault for the equaliser , all keepers make mistakes and if anyone blames home they should also blame the forwards for not taking chances that would have made his mistake imaterial.

Was very proud with the team, the way they played was immense all things considered.

As for MOPO, so long as we don't disassemble the side and the squad by selling players , he will stay , of that there is no doubt, the reaction to Cortese departure this week by the media has been nothing short of disgraceful in terms of conjecture and theory they span, apparently leading to melt down. It would be just as easy to write about the opportunity that may arise due to the rude health we are in, that would be more realistic than melt down.

Anyway , all in all I am happy at the end of a stressful week, would have been happier with a 1-5 thrashing of the black cats but as MOPO said a couple of weeks back "Rome wasn't built in a day". I. Ant Swee us finishing below 9th place any higher would be a bonus oh, and a trip to wembly anyone.

As I said in the pub to you last week he scores some great goals and his current strike record is impressive. However his touch is not that of a top six striker, watch motd and see the difference in class. He is missing a lot of chances that if we want to meet our aspirations need to be put away. His game is about work rate and pace and he cannot be faulted on those. I think we were all a little surprised at his call up, he didn't make a mark though did he.

I saw Puncheon score a goal with a hit and hope attempt that for once went in the right direction. Doesn't make him a better player than JRod, who gets in to many more scoring positions, but is still in the learning curve about his final option, no doubt our experienced pros are giving him advice, whether he is taking any notice of them is another thing.

Have to say that while I largely agree with you he does generate chances where they don't seem possible - he'll sprint at a group of defenders then come out with the ball and on goal purely through pace. He's done that since the start and recently has improved significantly how many of them are going in at the end of that process. If that imporvement continues, I think he'll become a great asset to the team. (Iin passing, anyone who says he can't hit it, don't be fooled by his lack of backlift and follow-through when he kicks - even ones he hammers don't look like he tried)

Unfortunately (or fortunately) that improvement has come at a time when Rickie's been well below par so we're getting J-Rod's goals as a replacement rather than in addition to SRL's tally. If we get the two of them firing on all cylinders we'll have a goal-fest.

Unfortunately, the money for a true top six/four striker is well beyond us at the moment. They cost and are paid a fortune purely because it's such a rare talent.

If we get the two of them firing on all cylinders we'll have a goal-fest. Unfortunately, the money for a true top six/four striker is well beyond us at the moment. They cost and are paid a fortune purely because it's such a rare talent. Velleity

I saw Poch's comments as clever, he was saying whether he will be here or not is up to the club and owner. Which to me said he is not leaving unless they get rid of him. He has said that several times. yes he has to have talks but of course there has been no time for this press conference thursday, traveling to match Friday etc.
Some great football first half and 3-4 goals would not of flattered us Beginning of the day a draw would of been good. Hope the injuries are not too bad.
As for the rumour watch this space.

Agree, corky was very tidy today and I think is unlucky not to have had more game time. His only weakness is probably his pace.
His main weakness is that he hasn't scored any goals, not through lack of trying, he just doesn't hit the target.

A reasonable post, but ruined by a failure to correct the predictive text errors, I know what the problem is, it's just a bit annoying.

If there is any truth in this story I wouldn't be even slighty surprised. NC has consistently said that this is his baby and to walk away the way that he did seems surprising. He has also consistently outsmarted the footballing dinosaurs at the FA and the press. He has done a number of things during his tenure that has had a huge backlash from a vocal minority of the fans and every single time he has come out on top. Come on NC get it done PS It's reported he's only worth £14billion. Can't you find somebody with some real money?

I saw Puncheon score a goal with a hit and hope attempt that for once went in the right direction. Doesn't make him a better player than JRod, who gets in to many more scoring positions, but is still in the learning curve about his final option, no doubt our experienced pros are giving him advice, whether he is taking any notice of them is another thing.
No we don't miss him at all. He might be an option if SRL gets injured though. We will need somebody to take the penalties.

Thanks Osprey, I know I should take the time to proof my posts , it is informal comms, so I won't lose any sleep over it after all the DE message board is hardly a bastion of the English languages best practices. The papers journos don't even get it right before going to print!

I also think that most people can make sense of the post and those who don't are probably skates from down the road.

That was exactly what I thought. He finally starts coming good and then this.

Anyway, anyone seen the story in the Mirror yet? Thoughts etc?

I. Ant Swee us finishing below 9th place any higher would be a bonus oh, and a trip to wembly anyone.

we would have to go a long way to become as hated as your club, doing a pompey the well know phrase for a failing club! if you read the comments on that article you will see a level of stupidness that is usually reserved for the fews site. the first comment says oh no another foreign owner, and then another says we will become another billionaires plaything. these people do not realise that we are already owned by foreign billionaires. have the liebherrs dumped us? no not at all. not like various owners did to your lot, the last owner took over twice and admitted he never even wanted you in the first place. its so ironic that you would moan about teams buying trophies, hows that fa cup doing? fans of nearly all football club don't want to buy their clubs, nor did your lot but you had no choice. it wasn't a brilliantly planned takeover from wealthy owners, it was a case of having to raise money or fold. even then your fans failed to raise enough and had to go to wealthy investors and get the courts to reduce the cost of nottarf!

Man questioned in betting fraud probe
A Chinese man was questioned at a League One match between Coventry and Crawley by investigators probing an alleged overseas betting fraud.

Sussex Police said the man was not arrested but was spoken to by the Football Association fraud unit.

A police spokesman said: "He was not arrested and was not linked to any club.

"This is part of an ongoing investigation by the FA into betting syndicate fraud."

The match at Sixfields Stadium in Northampton on Sunday ended 2-2.

"Northampton and Sussex Police officers were there to support the FA fraud team in dealing with the man and obtaining his information," added the police spokesman.

OK stupid let's set you a small maths project.
About 1800 of your lot gave £1000 to try and own your club it was not enough so you needed a few rich people to make it happen, oh and by the way these are the true owners Ie. they can sell their shares you cannot.
Now Saints are worth @£100 to £150 million how much would each share cost if all the 25,000 season ticket holders bought a share?
To make it easier use the £100,000,000 figure

I think if this happens no chance ever Saints fans owning their club and to win the premier and get in Europe with the players the Chinese billionaire would have to sign would put your admission prices up sky high and if the plan flops and you cant compete with the other billionaires in the premiership they will dump you like the liebherrs Saints are in fairy-tale madness with new shirts and god know what else .
we would have to go a long way to become as hated as your club, doing a pompey the well know phrase for a failing club! if you read the comments on that article you will see a level of stupidness that is usually reserved for the fews site. the first comment says oh no another foreign owner, and then another says we will become another billionaires plaything. these people do not realise that we are already owned by foreign billionaires. have the liebherrs dumped us? no not at all. not like various owners did to your lot, the last owner took over twice and admitted he never even wanted you in the first place. its so ironic that you would moan about teams buying trophies, hows that fa cup doing? fans of nearly all football club don't want to buy their clubs, nor did your lot but you had no choice. it wasn't a brilliantly planned takeover from wealthy owners, it was a case of having to raise money or fold. even then your fans failed to raise enough and had to go to wealthy investors and get the courts to reduce the cost of nottarf!
saints are in a fairy tale your right. L1, and almost bust, to mid-table of the prem in 4 years. don't forget fairy tales have happy endings, and it would also make your lot the ugly stepsisters.
the Doncaster and everton fans don't think we`re a `nobody`, they reserve that for your club, they are just fed up of the lack of input from their owners and jealous that a hugely wealthy person would want to buy us, not them. just like you!
The jealousy continues. I love it !!

If you own a mirror, look at it, and voila an 'amateur', assuming that you have actually contributed.

You didn't answer my question, if a wealthy European business man came along with friend, a banker, said I want to buy and run your club, and I promise to get your team into the Premier League in five years, would you sell to him. I appreciate this kind of fairy tale never happens in real life, but how would you feel about it? Would you sell?

You agree it could never happen then? You definitely wouldn't take a chance on it. I agree you cannot trust anyone these days, Arabs, Russians, they are all alike.
