Osvaldo suspended by Saints

Daily Echo: Dani Osvaldo Dani Osvaldo

Record Saints signing Dani Osvaldo has been suspended by the club for two weeks, following a "breach of conduct".

Osvaldo is understood to have been involved in an incident with his teammate, Jose Fonte, during a session at the club's Staplewood training ground yesterday.

No action is being taken against Fonte.

According to one other report, there was said to be "blood everywhere" following the incident, with Fonte left with facial injuries.

In a statement, Saints said: "Southampton Football Club has today suspended striker Dani Osvaldo for two weeks, following an incident at the club’s Staplewood training ground.

"The club has taken swift and proper action for what it considers a breach of the conduct expected of its players.

"Southampton will be making no further comment on this matter."

What a complete tool and proof that big money signings are not the be all and end all.

How long have we been without him now due to his indiscipline? 5 weeks? This figure is based on my personal assumption that Cortese did a quiet in-house suspension of his own after the Newcastle game.

Unless he cuts this kind of cr@p out then he needs to be shipped out and fast. I was really looking forward to seeing him bang a few goals in on Saturday but now we’re all deprived of this, with a further burden now placed on the squad.

I only hope the Sam G. gets a chance, makes the most of it and relegates this chump to the bench permanently. Can’t stand people who have it all and throw it away whilst brining shame to our beloved club.

Whatever it is he has done it is obviously serious enough to get himself suspended. It is a shame after such a positive start to the season and all the positive press regarding our use of young english players and style of play ewtc we seem to be under a barrage of questions and negative publicity. Lets hope this doesn't detract to what has still been a good season so far on the pitch. Dani has not really performed yet, I am more concerned about the loss of Lovren and hope that another centre back can be bought in or given a chance from the u21's. We are a club to be proud of, lets hope this remains!

So he follows up a 3 match suspension for something that didn't even happen on the pitch and was entirely in his control by getting suspended by his club for something that didn't even happen on the pitch (and if it was a slap of a team mate as alleged) and was entirely in his control.

When he does play he spends most of his time rolling around on the floor and or giving the ref grief.

It's not as if this sort of $hite wasn't known about when we signed him which leads me to wonder why we did.

Agreed, MoPo and Cortese are held up as a shining example, which is quite right in many ways. BUT, they both need to be held accountable for this signing. At the moment it's £15m plus wages down the toilet and I can't say I'm suprised when you look at the history.

It's odd that they went through with signing him TBH, I thought we were smarter than that.

I don't get why this is an `anti-saints` story. surely the club come out of this looking good. there was an incident and the club acted properly. instead of sweeping it under the carpet, which would have caused a lot more speculation as to his non-appearance , the club has let everyone know that he is suspended for a training ground incident and the mater is now closed. this also might put pressure on Danni to behave in the future. he`s not going to be picked for Italy in the world cup if he`s not playing club football. Italy already have one temperamental forward in Mario so do they want another?
its up to Danni and the club now to see if there is a way forward. lets hope it will all be sorted and we can get back to winning games.
MP staked a lot to bring Danni in and might see it as a personal failure if Danni were to leave, and he did say that no players would leave if he didn't want them to.

Possibly, in the meantime he can just impress the hell out of us by serving his time, scoring a load of goals when he comes back then having the mother of all World Cup's. He can then go to AC Milan for £50m.

It was noted when Osvaldo signed that he was somewhat temperamental and I would imagine that those responsible for signing him – including Mauricio Pochettino and Nicola Cortese – were smart enough to calculate he would miss a game or six every season.
However, as with a number beloved Saints of yore, the timing of the suspension leaves much to be desired.

I am very sad - but not surprised - by this latest report concerning Osvaldo. My own view is that he should be off loaded as soon as possible.

He has done nothing to to enhance our Club, only brought it into disrepute. His performances on the Park have been dismal considering the price paid for him and his current wages. I just think he doesn't give a toss for the Saints or his team mates.

No, I am convinced he should be sold soonest.

Four big money signings in the last couple of years. IMO paying large sums for players is / was not the answer. Aside from Lovren, i would suggest Ramirez, Wanyama and Osvaldo are no better than what we had / have got.

Whilst i accept our results have dipped since Wanyama has been out, in fairness to JC, we have played some tougher games than when Wanyama was in the team. His interception is class however his distribution has been poor.

Ramirez, whilst i have no doubt of his ability, really this guy is not suited to our type of system / tactics. He is a luxury as was Matt in his day however Matt would no doubt struggle within this current set up / high tempo / chase the ball style of play.

Osvaldo......well what to say, i am sure he could go onto great things but unfortunately he is a head case. The sad thing is it's not as if this wasn't know as he does have a history.

NewForestStu

The man will not help the club from the side lines, but that is where he always seems too be. I would be sorry to see him go in the sense that we have never had a player costing that much before. On the day he signed i thought WOW, a player costing that much coming to our club to play for us was maybe a pointer of how our club was viewed abroad. I now feel maybe it was because nobody else really wanted him in the first place. If true that, he is spitting at other players , then there is no place at our club for him IMO.
Glad we only need four more wins to stay up , i would'nt of thought i would be saying that just a few weeks ago. Lets get this fecking month over with and move on.

Whatever he did - and I've no intention of speculating as to what that was - he shouldn't have done it and the club has taken the necessary steps. (Dumb Ossie - Well done club!)

In the meantime, I hope that:
1) any fall out between players can be resolved and everyone at the club can move on.
2) once he's back, we, as fans, will also move on, and - just as we did with Punch - we'll support and encourage him every time he dons a Saints shirt.

Obviously annoyed by this news because he's proving he has that child mentality that it seems some players never grow out of no matter how many times they get a second chance.

On the plus side, and it is a big plus side, Osvaldo's place in the squad or team has done nothing but distract and disrupt our performances this season so in actual fact it will mean continuity up front and a continued run for Ricky, who was lacking momentum dipping in and out of the side.

Plus it means we can't possibly think of cashing in on Ricky this month either, which in my opinion would be a mistake, particularly following the departure of Nicola.

Looks like were going to be keeping Dani and Gaston for a few more months then!

I would usually agree with you but I think its a shrewd move. The press would have got a whiff of this then speculated and demanded a response if news of a punch up had leaked out. This way it is clear who the aggressor was, action has been taken, and in true NC style it is clear they will make no further comment. The players will all have been told to keep their mouths shut. So anything that emerges from now on will be pure guesswork. The story will die in less than ten days and everyone will move on.

I wondering how much Guly paid Jose to wind Dani up.

This stuff happens all the time 2 days ago Gary Monk and Chico Floris were at it and the police were called to Swansea training ground, however he does seem to have caused a bit of aggro where ever he's been, what is it with Italian strikers, Balotelli was a nightmare at Man C and they got rid of him, however we are not them, we don't have their financial clout so I think it's best we keep Dani and hope the differences with Jose can be sorted for all concerned, obviously MoPo must have sanctioned the 2 weeks suspension so maybe Dani wasn't his starting 11 for 3 games he'll miss.

I can't see us getting another striker in the window, so he has to stay, IMO

This mistake has got to be down to MoPo, he knew the bloke was a hot head, he smacked his team mate Eric Lamela during a match because he didn't pass him the ball, is that really somebody we want at Southampton and now he is out again, he's costing us about a million quid a game at this rate and we just can't afford that sort of liability on our books. The sooner they offload him the better.

Nice idea but impossible in reality. Apart from a couple of dozen players and all the coaching staff a few groundsmen and onlookers would have witnessed it. Then we would all be asking why he wasn't playing against Yeovil. There are somethings that can't be kept secret and when it came out the club would be seen to have breached its promise of transparency.

Apart from a couple of dozen players and all the coaching staff a few groundsmen and onlookers would have witnessed it. Then we would all be asking why he wasn't playing against Yeovil. Hoover and yoshida to look forward at the back, lucky we only have Yeovil!

I'm all for giving 2nd chances however dani's had those, I now say sell.
Center half and now a striker in this transfer window.
Seems that the injury has been exaggerated and won't affect his playing ability, may need to wear a mask though, just to frighten the Yeovil CF.

If the guy has a history of being a temperamental little Diva he does not belong on ANY football pitch for ANY club if he's gonna be acting like a thug and not a PROFESSIONAL. Football doesn't need someone like him if he can't control his temper. There's dozens of people out there that could easily replace him and be far more talented he should remember the age old saying "what goes around, comes around"
