FORMER Andover and Eastleigh striker Justin Bennett has joined Poole Town on a month’s loan from Gosport Borough.

With Richard Gillespie still sidelined by injury, Poole boss Tom Killick feels Bennett's eye for goal could prove crucial to the Dolphins' Calor Southern Premier promotion push.

“It was just too good an opportunity to resist,” he said. “Justin’s scoring record over his entire career is phenomenal and he is capable of scoring many different types of goal.

“He is an exceptional player and I am very happy to have signed someone of his calibre, albeit on loan.”

Gosport boss Pike added: “Justin’s a Gosport Borough player and I love him to bits.

“Hopefully he will go there and get some confidence and come back in a month’s time raring to go.”

Gosport had ‘captain marvel’ Jamie Brown to thank as they boosted their Skrill Conference South survival prospects with a priceless 1-0 victory at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

Former Eastleigh warrior Brown settled the issue with an audacious 35-yard lob.

The victory came just four days after fifth-placed Weston had punctured Eastleigh's title charge 3-2 at Woodspring Park and Spitfires boss Richard Hill reckoned that game had a bearing on Gosport's victory.

"I believe we've done Gosport a favour," he said. "They've gone to Weston and won and you wouldn't have thought that would have been possible with the way Weston played the other night.

"They (Weston) were probably dead on their feet because they put so much effort into the Tuesday night game."
